Virginia's 90th House of Delegates district elects one of the 100 members of the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. The district is made up of parts of the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. [1] [2]

Contents

The 90th delegate seat was held by Joseph C. Lindsey from 2014 until his 2020 retirement to accept a judgeship. [3] [4] [5] Angelia Williams Graves was sworn in after winning a 2021 special election. [6]

Joseph Cornell Lindsey is a Virginia judge in the Fourth Judicial Circuit. Formerly a lawyer in private practice in Norfolk, substitute judge in that court for 16 years and Democratic politician, he represented (part-time) the 90th district in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2014 until November 15, 2020, when he resigned to accept the judicial appointment; fellow Democrat Angelia Williams Graves succeeded to the seat.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 Virginia lieutenant gubernatorial election</span>

The 2021 Virginia lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 2021, to elect the next lieutenant governor of Virginia. Incumbent Democratic Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax was eligible to run for a second term, but instead unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. On November 3, Hala Ayala conceded the race, making Republican Winsome Sears the first black woman to be elected to the lieutenant governorship of Virginia or any statewide office, as well as the first woman elected lieutenant governor in Virginia's history. Sears was also the first Jamaican-American to become a lieutenant governor.

Angelia Williams Graves is an American politician who has served as a Democratic member for the 90th district in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2021.
