Angelia Williams Graves is an American politician who has served as a Democratic member for the 21st district in the Virginia Senate since 2024. She previously represented 90th district in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2021 to 2024.
Graves obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Tidewater Community College. She would then go on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in marketing from Old Dominion University. [1]
Graves first entered politics in 2010 running for Norfolk City Council's Super Ward 7. Graves would win the election with 40% of the vote. She would be re-elected again in 2012,2016,and 2020. [2] Graves would also serve as vice-mayor from 2013 to 2016. [3]
On November 19,2020,Graves announced her plan to run for the 90th district in the Virginia House of Delegates following the resignation of Delegate Joseph C. Lindsey to become a judge in the Norfolk General District Court. [4] Graves would defeat Rick James for the Democratic nomination in a firehouse primary. [5] She would go on and defeat Republican Sylvia Bryant in the special election. [3]

Winsome Sears is an American politician serving as the 42nd lieutenant governor of Virginia. A member of the Republican Party,Sears served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2004. She also served on the Virginia Board of Education,and she ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia's 3rd congressional district in 2004 and for U.S. Senate in 2018. In 2021,she was initially declared the loser to Republican Aijalon "A.C." Cordoza,an information technology specialist. However,due to the closeness of the win,a recount was held. After the recount,Mugler conceded. She was elected to an at large seat on Hampton City Council on November 8,2022.

All 100 delegates were elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. Democrats gained 3 seats,winning back control with a 51-49 majority after having previously lost it in 2021.
The 2023 Virginia Senate election was held on Tuesday,November 7,2023,concurrently with elections for the Virginia House of Delegates,to elect senators to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 163rd and 164th Virginia Assembly. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. These were the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census.
