Glen Howard Sturtevant Jr. (born September 14,1982) is an American lawyer and Republican politician,who served as a member of the Senate of Virginia (a part-time position) from 2016 to 2020. His Virginia Senate committee assignments included Commerce and Labor,Courts of Justice,General Laws and Technology,and Local Government. [1]
Born in Wilmington,Delaware,Sturtevant grew up in Spotsylvania and Chesterfield Counties,graduating from Midlothian High School. [2] He then attended Catholic University in Washington,D.C.,and received a B.A. degree. He later attended what was then called George Mason Law School (now Antonin Scalia Law School) in Arlington,Virginia and received a J.D. degree. [3]
Sturtevant is a member of and active in the Virginia State Bar. He practices with the Rawls Law Group,concentrating on complex civil litigation,including medical malpractice. [4] From 2012 until his election to the state senate,Sturtevant served on the Richmond School Board. [5] [6]
In 2023,Sturtevant won the Republican nomination for State Senate in the newly redrawn 12th district,defeating incumbent Amanda Chase and another challenger Tina Ramirez. [7]

The Senate of Virginia is the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. The Senate is composed of 40 senators representing an equal number of single-member constituent districts. The Senate is presided over by the lieutenant governor of Virginia. Prior to the American War of Independence,the upper house of the General Assembly was represented by the Virginia Governor's Council,consisting of up to 12 executive counselors appointed by the colonial royal governor as advisers and jurists.

Schuyler Thomas VanValkenburg is an American teacher and politician. He was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 72nd District on November 7,2017,to replace retiring delegate Jimmie Massie. He defeated Republicans Eddie Whitlock and GayDonna Vandergriff in the 2017 and 2019 elections,respectively. In the 2023 state elections,VanValkenburg was elected over incumbent Siobhan Dunnavant in the newly redrawn 16th District. The race was considered highly competitive for control of the State Senate.

Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. These were the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census.
