Arturo Sandoval is a Cuban-American jazz trumpeter, pianist, timbalero, and composer. While living in his native Cuba, Sandoval was influenced by jazz musicians Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, and Dizzy Gillespie. In 1977 he met Gillespie, who became his friend and mentor and helped him defect from Cuba while on tour with the United Nations Orchestra. Sandoval became an American naturalized citizen in 1998. His life was the subject of the film For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story (2000) starring Andy García.
Rockapella is an American a cappella musical group formed in 1986 in New York City. The group's name is a portmanteau of "rock" and "a cappella". Rockapella sings original vocal music and a cappella covers of pop and rock songs; and over time, their sound has evolved from high-energy pop and world music toward a more R&B-style sound. Rockapella initially found their biggest success in Japan throughout their career [unclear]. They are also known for their role as a vocal house band and resident comedy troupe on the PBS children's geography game show Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, based on the educational computer game of the same name developed and published by Broderbund.
Rubén González Fontanills was a Cuban pianist. Together with Lilí Martínez and Peruchín he is said to have "forged the style of modern Cuban piano playing in the 1940s".

Pies Descalzos is the third studio album and the international debut album by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, released on 6 October 1995, by Sony Music Colombia and Columbia Records. Cappella is an Italian Eurodance music group formed in 1987 by producer Gianfranco Bortolotti. The Idea of North are an Australian a cappella vocal ensemble founded in Canberra in 1993, by Nick Begbie (tenor), Meg Corson (alto), Trish Delaney-Brown (soprano) and Andrew Piper (bass). In March 2002 Corson was replaced as alto by Naomi Crellin. Delaney-Brown was replaced on soprano in February 2007 by Sally Cameron. They won the Best Jazz Album category at the ARIA Music Awards of 2010 for Feels Like Spring and again in 2013 for Smile.

For "Got 'til It's Gone", Jackson opted for a less polished and more authentic alternative hip hop and trip hop-influenced sound.
"Let It Whip" is a 1982 single by the Dazz Band and their biggest hit, peaking at number one on the R&B chart for five non-consecutive weeks. El Cimarrón is a scenic vocal composition by the German composer Hans Werner Henze, written when the composer lived in Cuba in 1969–1970. It is subtitled Biographie des geflohenen Sklaven Esteban Montejo, and the libretto by Hans Magnus Enzensberger is based on the oral autobiography related in 1963 to Miguel Barnet by Montejo, who was also a veteran of the Cuban War of Independence (1895–98).
"You Don't Have to Worry" is the third single from New Edition's sixth studio album, Home Again (1996). The song was released as the remixed "vocal version" featuring female rapper Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott and as a B-side with the accompanying second single "I'm Still in Love with You". There is also an alternate version of the remix that features the vocals of Fat Joe, instead of Missy on the 12" single. The single version also features production by Stevie J and co-written credits by R&B group 112, while the album version credits production by Sean "Puffy" Combs and Chucky Thompson.
