Vodafone Broadband [1] is the consumer and business home broadband offered by VodafoneThree in the United Kingdom.
Vodafone acquired Cable & Wireless Worldwide in April 2012. This gave its customers access to fixed‐line infrastructure beyond its mobile network. [2]
In June 2015, Vodafone launched Vodafone Connect, originally for existing Vodafone mobile customers in areas like Manchester, Berkshire, Hampshire, and Surrey. Features included broadband up to 76 Mbps, a fibre‐optic network reaching tens of millions of premises, WiFi management features, and parental controls. [3] [4]
In 2017, Vodafone partnered with CityFibre to deliver FTTP (Full Fibre to Premises). The aim was to bring gigabit-capable broadband to up to 5 million homes by 2025. [5]
By 2020, Vodafone was rolling out ultra-fast full fibre broadband in several UK cities with Openreach and CityFibre. Speeds up to 900 Mbps were offered in many areas.
By June 2022, Vodafone had become the UK’s largest full fibre broadband provider (in terms of homes able to access its full fibre service), overtaking BT. [6]
Between late 2023 and early 2024, the network operator introduced their fastest ever full fibre speeds (up to 2.2 Gbps) under the “Vodafone Pro 2 Broadband” product name, which included new hardware like a WiFi 6E router. This has since been usurped by Vodafone’s Pro 3 (21), which utilises a WiFi 7 router.
Vodafone first offered full fibre services for small office and home office (SoHo) businesses in early 2020, partnering with CityFibre and Openreach to deliver gigabit broadband connections to business premises. [7]
Vodafone uses a mix of Openreach (BT) network and alternative network providers like CityFibre and Community Fibre to deliver services. [8]
Technologies:
Vodafone’s Pro Broadband is the network provider’s premium tier for home broadband customers. This premium offering is designed to deliver enhanced reliability, coverage, and support.
The first release was the original Pro packages, which introduced features like Super WiFi Boosters for whole-home coverage, automatic 4G backup during outages, and access to dedicated Broadband Xperts for troubleshooting. [9]
In October 2022, Vodafone launched its next Pro iteration with Pro 2. This offered a new Ultra Hub router and Super WiFi 6E boosters with speeds up to 910 Mbps, with trials pushing 2 Gbps. [10]
In early 2024, Vodafone launched revamped speeds for Pro 2, which brought speeds of up to 2.2 Gbps. [11]
In 2025, Vodafone launched Pro 3 Broadband, its latest broadband offering. Pro 3 launched with WiFi 7 compatibility and offers speeds of up to 2.2 Gbps. Included is Vodafone’s Secure Net Home, which provides security and advanced parental controls on up to 128 devices in the home. [12]
Altnets (alternative networks) are broadband providers building networks independent of the traditional incumbent (Openreach in the UK). [13]
Vodafone has long had a partnership with CityFibre, using its network for delivering full fibre broadband in certain cities since 2017. [14]
In June 2025, VodafoneThree announced a strategic wholesale agreement with Community Fibre, London’s largest full fibre network. In this deal, Vodafone will be able to offer its full fibre broadband services through Community Fibre’s network footprint, serving up to 1.3 million homes in London. [15] [16]
2018: Ultimate Speed Guarantee – a television advert campaign featuring actor Martin Freeman. This was subsequently banned for being 'misleading'. [17]
March 2024: "The Great British Telecoms Switch" – encouraged people stuck in expensive contracts with BT, EE, and Sky to switch to Vodafone Full Fibre 900; offering up to £100 to cover exit fees. [18]
Mid 2024: The Nation’s Network – a broader branding campaign emphasising Vodafone’s role in connecting people across the UK, beyond just broadband [19]
