WAMN News (also known as WAMN News Online or simply WAMN) is an Australian online news outlet based in Perth, Western Australia. It livestreams press conferences on its Facebook page, and airs a weekly news bulletin. [1] [2]

History

WAMN News was founded by journalist Ivan Leung in January 2013. Leung had previously founded DHK News in 2007, which covered news in Perth and Hong Kong. [3] [4]

Talk-back radio host Howard Sattler joined WAMN as a contributor in 2014 after being fired from radio station 6PR over a controversial interview with former Prime Minister Julia Gillard, in which he asked her whether her partner Tim Mathieson was gay. [5] [6]

WAMN won the Communications Award at the 2021 Western Australian Multicultural Awards, hosted by the Western Australian government's Office of Multicultural Interests. [7]

Former ABC political reporter Peter Kennedy joined WAMN in early 2022. [8]

As of December 2023, WAMN has over 55,000 followers on Facebook. [9]

Basil Anthony Zempilas is an Australian television and radio presenter, sports commentator and politician based in Perth, Western Australia. Zempilas presented sport until 2022 on Seven News Perth, Monday to Thursday and from January 2014 until 11 December 2020 co-hosted Perth radio station 6PR's breakfast program with Steve Mills. He is also a member of the Seven Network's AFL football commentary team. Zempilas has commentated on the Olympics and several other major sporting events, was formerly with radio station 92.9 in Perth and has previously been a co-host of Weekend Sunrise. In 2020, Zempilas was elected Lord Mayor of Perth.

Balgo, previously Balgo Hills and Balgo Mission, is a community in Western Australia that is linked with both the Great Sandy Desert and the Tanami Desert. The community is in the Shire of Halls Creek, off the Tanami Road, and was established by German missionaries in 1939. In the 2021 census Balgo's population numbered 430.

George Ned Grljusich was an Australian sports journalist, commentator and former Australian rules footballer. Born in Wiluna, Western Australia, he played 12 games of football for the South Fremantle Football Club in the Western Australian National Football League in 1960, before quitting football to pursue a media career. Grljusich later became a radio broadcaster, commentating for Perth-based radio stations 720 ABC Perth and 6PR. He died in 2007 at the age of 68, from lung cancer.
