Walking to the Waterline is a 1998 American drama film written and directed by Matt Mulhern and starring Matt Mulhern, Alan Ruck, Matthew Broderick, and Hallie Foote. [1] The film premiered at the Florida Film Festival on June 13, 1998. The film aired in heavy rotation on IFC.

Premise

Once a successful television sitcom star, Francis McGowan is now a struggling actor who returns to his family home on the Jersey Shore to sell it following his father's death. While there, he interacts with his agent Michael Woods, his childhood friend Duane Hopwood, and tour guide Lucy Bammer, with whom he drifts into a casual affair while his wife and children wait for him to return home.

Production

Walking to the Waterline was Matt Mulhern's directorial debut and was filmed during 1997 in Ocean City and Atlantic City, New Jersey. [2] His sophomore effort, the 2005 drama Duane Hopwood , focused on one of the supporting characters he created for this film. [3]

Mulhern starred in the film and was able to enlist Ruck, Broderick, Holbrook, and Boatman to the cast as they were friends of his. [4]

Walking to the Waterline premiered at the Florida Film Festival on June 13, 1998. [5] [6] [7]

Critical reception

Josh Ralske of TV Guide reviewed the film, writing "There's a sweet underlying sadness to the film, but it's much too soft around the edges." [8]

Florida breaks, which may also be referred to as The Orlando Sound, Orlando breaks, or The Breaks, is a genre of breakbeat dance music that originated in the central region of the State of Florida, United States. Florida Breaks originates from a mixture of hip-hop, Miami bass and electro that often includes recognizable sampling of early jazz or funk beats from rare groove or popular film. Biloxi Blues is a semi-autobiographical play by Neil Simon. It portrays the conflict of Sergeant Merwin J. After being featured in the Sundance Film Festival in January 2005, it later had a limited theatrical release in November 2005. The film's plot centers on the title character (Schwimmer), an alcoholic whose life is spiraling downward rapidly after his divorce from Linda (Garofalo).

Holbrook/Twain: An American Odyssey is a 2014 American documentary film directed by Scott Teems about actor Hal Holbrook's six decades performing his one-man show Mark Twain Tonight! The film was released in 2019. The idea for the documentary came from Dixie Carter, Holbrook's wife. It was shot in black and white.
