The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a public research university with campuses near Vancouver and in Kelowna. Established in 1908, it is the oldest university in British Columbia. With an annual research budget of $759 million, UBC funds over 8,000 projects a year.

In 2022 President Joe Biden appointed him to the National Museum and Library Services Board which advises the agency on general policies with respect to the duties, powers, and authority of the Institute of Museum and Library Services relating to museum, library, and information services, as well as the annual selection of National Medals recipients.
Gustav Philipp Koerner, also spelled Gustave or Gustavus Koerner, was a German-American revolutionary, journalist, lawyer, politician, judge and statesman in Illinois and Germany, and a Colonel of the U.S. Army who was a confessed enemy of slavery. He married on 17 June 1836 in Belleville Sophia Dorothea Engelmann ; they had 9 children. He belonged to the co-founders and was one of the first members of the Grand Old Party, and was a close confidant of Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd, and had an essential role in his nomination and election for president in 1860.
The University Transition Program for Gifted Students, often called UBC Transition program, or simply UTP is an accelerated secondary school program for gifted students funded by the BC Ministry of Education's Provincial Resource Program with hosting, educational support and financial assistance from the University of British Columbia (UBC), and administered by the Vancouver School Board in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Each year, the program accepts around 20 new students between the ages 12 and 15, half of which are from outside the Vancouver School Board. Over the course of two years, students complete required five year high school curriculum along with some university coursework. When they graduate from the program, the students are usually accepted into UBC earlier than they would if they had graduated from a regular high school.

BC Studies: The British Columbian Quarterly is a Canadian academic journal about British Columbia history. It has been published by the University of British Columbia (UBC) since its establishment in 1969 by its founding editors Margaret Prang and Walter D. Young. The editors for BC Studies includes three UBC historians, two UBC geographers, a UBC historian from their Faculty of Education, a political scientist from the University of Victoria, and finally a historian from British Columbia that have experience in the archaeology and historical geography fields. It is peer-reviewed and published quarterly. It is indexed by EBSCOhost, Gale Group, H. W. Wilson, International Atomic Energy Agency, National Library of Medicine, OCLC, and ProQuest.
Robert M. Koerner was an American engineer and academic. He was Professor Emeritus at Drexel University and director emeritus of the Geosynthetic Institute. He died on December 1, 2019.
