Wares is a Canadian musical project from Edmonton, Alberta, founded by Cassia Hardy in 2013. As of 2018, the live band consists of Hardy (vocals, guitar), Matthew Gooding (bass), Holly Greaves (drums) and Jamie McLean (keyboards). [1] Wares has released one full-length album and four EPs.

History

Wares began performing concerts in Edmonton in 2013. [2] In 2016, Wares released a 7-inch single, entitled "Missed the Point" on Sweety Pie Records. [3] [4] [5] "Beach Date," the b-side to the single, was nominated for an Edmonton Music Award in 2017 under the category Indie Rock Recording of the Year. [6] [7] In 2017, Wares released their first full-length album, which was self-titled. [8] [9] Wares' debut album brought more attention to the project and BeatRoute Magazine praised Hardy's musicianship, noting that her "punk attitude meets skillful composition" on the album. [10] [11] Wares performed at Sled Island Music and Arts Festival in 2015, 2016 and 2017. [12] [13] [14]

In June 2018, Wares toured across Canada, performing in more than 20 cities. [15] [16] [17]

Wares sophomore album, Survival, was released on April 24, 2020, by Vancouver indie label, Mint Records. The album was a long list nominee for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. [18]

Doug Hoyer is a Canadian pop-rock artist originally from Edmonton and currently based in Chicago. Since 2009, Hoyer has been a prominent member of the Edmonton-based music collective, OLD UGLY Recording Co. Active since 2003, Hoyer began as a cast member of the reality show Rock Camp, which aired on CBC Television in 2004 and featured Joel Plaskett with various guests. Hoyer has released ten solo recordings and performed on several other releases by artists such as Born Gold and Jessica Jalbert.

PUP (band) Canadian punk rock band

PUP is a Canadian punk rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario in 2010, originally under the name Topanga. PUP's self-titled debut album was released on October 8, 2013, on Royal Mountain Records. In December 2013, PUP signed with SideOneDummy Records and re-released their debut album in the United States on April 8, 2014. The group was in the studio in late 2015 recording their second album The Dream Is Over which was released on May 27, 2016, through SideOneDummy. The band's third album, titled Morbid Stuff, was released on April 5, 2019. This Place Sucks Ass, a six-track EP, was released on October 27, 2020.

Dilly Dally is a Canadian grunge and alternative rock band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The band consists of Katie Monks, Liz Ball, Annie Jane Marie (bassist) and Benjamin Reinhartz (drummer).

The Dirty Nil is a Canadian rock band from Hamilton, Ontario, who won the Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2017. The band consists of singer and guitarist Luke Bentham, drummer Kyle Fisher, and bassist Sam Tomlinson.

Jessie Reyez Canadian singer and songwriter

Jessica Reyez is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Her 2016 single "Figures" peaked at number 58 on the Canadian Hot 100 in 2017 and was certified triple Platinum by Music Canada and Platinum by the RIAA. Her 2017 EP, Kiddo, led to four nominations at the 2018 Juno Awards, winning Breakthrough Artist. Her follow up EP, Being Human in Public, was released in 2018. It won R&B/Soul Recording of The Year at the 2019 Juno Awards and was nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards. Reyez again won the R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, for "Feel it Too" with Tory Lanez and Tainy, at the 2020 Juno Awards, where she was also nominated for Artist of the Year. Reyez has written songs for Calvin Harris, Kehlani, Dua Lipa and Normani, most notably penning the hit "One Kiss", and has collaborated with Eminem on multiple occasions. Her debut album, Before Love Came to Kill Us, was released on March 27, 2020, to widespread critical acclaim, and saw commercial success, entering at number thirteen on the US Billboard 200.

Faith Healer is a Canadian indie rock band from Edmonton, Alberta, whose core member is singer and songwriter Jessica Jalbert. Another long-time member is singer-songwriter, producer and recording engineer Renny Wilson.

The Dead South Canadian folk-bluegrass musical ensemble

The Dead South is a folk-bluegrass musical ensemble based in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The band was initially formed in 2012 as a quartet by Nate Hilts, Scott Pringle, Danny Kenyon and Colton Crawford (banjo). Crawford left the band in 2015 and was replaced by studio musician Eliza Mary Doyle for several years. Crawford re-joined the band starting with the Voices In Your Head tour in mid-2018.

Baby Jey is a Brooklyn-based indie rock band originally from Edmonton, Alberta, founded in 2015 by core members Jeremy Witten, and Dean Kheroufi. In 2017, Baby Jey started performing as a four-piece band with the addition of Trevor McNeely and Connor Ellinger (drums).

Snotty Nose Rez Kids

Snotty Nose Rez Kids are a First Nations hip hop duo composed of Haisla rappers Darren "Young D" Metz and Quinton "Yung Trybez" Nyce. They are originally from Kitamaat Village, British Columbia, and currently based in Vancouver. Their 2017 album The Average Savage was shortlisted for the 2018 Polaris Music Prize, and for the Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2019. In 2018, the duo received nominations for Best Hip Hop Album at the Indigenous Music Awards, and for Indigenous Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. Their third album TRAPLINE was released on May 10, 2019 and was later shortlisted for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize.

Mariel Buckley is a Canadian country music singer-songwriter based in Calgary, Alberta. She is the younger sister of singer T. Buckley.

nipiy is the debut album by Edmonton-based band nêhiyawak, released on October 24, 2019, on Arts & Crafts Productions. It was nominated for Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the 2020 Juno Awards, and shortlisted for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize.
