Washington Square is a neighborhood in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Washington Square is located in North Brookline along Beacon Street. Located 1 mile from Coolidge Corner, the area contains several stores for both shopping and eating. The small hub has attracted several nice restaurants and other unique facilities.
Washington Square features attractive brownstone buildings which line both sides of Beacon Street and leafy side streets. The Washington Square clock, a green 18-foot Victorian icon, resides in the middle of the Square. [1] Other clocks in Cleveland Circle and Brighton Center have been modeled off the attractive original in Washington Square.
The neighborhood is home to a number of eateries, many of which feature outdoor sidewalk terraces for drinking and dining.
The Michael Driscoll School, [2] one of Brookline's eight public elementary schools, is located in Washington Square.
Washington Square is a stop of the MBTA's Green Line C branch, between Coolidge Corner and Cleveland Circle. [3]

The line begins at Cleveland Circle in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston and runs on the surface through Brookline along the median of Beacon Street. Reentering Boston, the line goes underground through the St. Marys Street incline and joins the B and D branches at Kenmore. Trains run through the Boylston Street subway to Copley where the E branch joins, then continue through the Tremont Street subway to downtown Boston. As of 2020, the C branch terminates at North Station.
Coolidge Corner is a neighborhood of Brookline, Massachusetts, centered on the intersection of Beacon Street and Harvard Street. The neighborhood takes its name from the Coolidge & Brother general store that opened in 1857 at that intersection at the site of today's S.S. Pierce building, which was for many years the only commercial business in north Brookline.
