Waterford College of Further Education(WCFE), [2] previously called the Central Technical Institute (CTI), is a Post Leaving Certificate institute located on Parnell St., Waterford city. It was founded in 1906 [3] and thus celebrated its centenary in 2005.[ citation needed ]

It offers a range of full-time and evening courses for post Leaving Certificate students in the areas of business, industry and the arts. In 2018 it enrolled 842 full-time day students and 300 part-time day and night students

The Examination is overseen by the State Examinations Commission. The Leaving Certificate Examinations are taken annually by approximately 55,000 students.

The degree-awarding authorities approved by the Government of Ireland, which can grant awards at all academic levels, are University of Dublin, National University of Ireland, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin City University, Technological University Dublin, Quality and Qualifications Ireland, St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, and University of Limerick. The King's Inns of Dublin has a limited role in education specialising in the preparation of candidates for the degree of barrister-at-law to practice as barristers. The Higher Certificate is a third level education award at level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications in the Republic of Ireland.The Higher Certificate is awarded by various Institutes of Technology. A Higher Certificate academic programme is two years of full-time study. Students can complete an additional (add-on) year to obtain the ordinary bachelor's degree, and may then complete a further add-on year to obtain the Honours bachelor's degree. The Higher Certificate is, in effect, two years of a three-year undergraduate degree. The Higher Certificate should not be confused with the Advanced Certificate which is a two-year Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) program of further education, typically delivered by community colleges, and is also awarded at level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications and can be used to gain entry to a third level undergraduate program.

It was founded by the Singapore Economic Development Board on 28 November 1964. SIM is registered under the Committee for Private Education Singapore (CPE). Technological University for the South East Ireland or TUSE, TUSEI is the working title for a Technological University in the South East region of the Republic of Ireland. It will be amalgamation of two existing Institutes of Technology in the region - Waterford IT and IT Carlow. Following years of discussions and planning, its formation was announced in November 2021, and will be formally established in May 2022. It will be the Waterford city's only university.
