Waze & Odyssey are a British electronic music duo consisting of Serge Santiago and Firas Waez. [1]

Contents

In 2014, the duo had a top 3 UK chart hit in the UK with their remix of 1994 single "Bump n' Grind". The track went on to sell over 400,000 copies worldwide. [2]

In 2020, the pair released a bootleg version of George Michael & Mary J Blige's cover of Stevie Wonder's Always via Sony Records. All parties gave their blessing to the re-work and George Michael makes a cameo in the official music video. [3]

Forming in 2011, the duo came to early prominence after releasing on labels such as Wolf Music, Let's Play House, Tsuba and Throne of Blood. In 2012 made their European DJ debut at Berghain nightclub in Panorama Bar, Berlin. [4] [5] [6] The pair have gone on to tour the world extensively, playing across the world's leading electronic festivals and events. They have gone on to release music on labels for Green Velvet, Eats Everything and Jamie Jones, among others.

Waze & Odyssey head their own record label, W&O Street Tracks, which has seen releases from Groove Armada, Will Easton, Vonda7, Kill Frenzy, Lancelot, XXXY, Eliphino, Citizenn and Ejeca. The label has received plaudits from XL Recordings and Feel My Bicep Blog [7] [8]

Waze & Odyssey's sound brings together house music, techno and disco influences.

Musical career

As producers

The pairing have released records on Wolf Music, petFood, Hottrax, Edible, Relief Records, Crosstown Rebels, Disco Bloodbath, Lets Play House, Tsuba, Throne of Bloody, and their own label W&O Street Tracks.

In 2012, they were nominated for Best Breakthrough Producers at the DJ Mag Awards.

They have also remixed a wide spectrum of artists such as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Ejeca, Disclosure and Duke Dumont. [1]

As DJs

Waze & Odyssey have toured extensively across the world. They have played many of the world's biggest and most influential clubs such as Panorama Bar (Berghain), Fabric, The Warehouse Project, Amnesia and at festivals including Hideout, [9] Glastonbury, EXIT Festival, Bestival, and Secret Garden Party. [10]

They have received significant support from BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, Annie Mac & Danny Howard

In February 2015, they were invited to do the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. [11]

They've featured on Boiler Room twice, first time in 2013 in Berlin where they made their debut alongside Tyree Cooper, Kyodai & DoP [12]

In 2015 they were invited back to takeover Boiler Room in London with their label Street Tracks with label acts Neville Watson, Lancelot & Nummer

W&O Street Tracks

In 2012, Waze & Odyssey started their own label W&O Street Tracks, releasing across vinyl and digital formats. [13]

As well as releasing their own music, the duo have championed the likes of Sage Caswell, Ejeca, Citizenn and XXXY, Lancelot, Kill Frenzy.

The label has seen support from the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Dusky, Mr G, Agoria, Huxley, Eats Everything & more. [14]

"Bump & Grind 2014"

In late 2011, the duo created a bootleg containing R. Kelly's "Bump n' Grind" and MK's version of "Push the Feeling On" by Nightcrawlers to play in a DJ set. [15] Having played it to Skream, he then requested a copy and the track took on a life of its own, going on to receive heavy club support across the UK and abroad from the likes of DJ EZ, Horse Meat Disco, Duke Dumont & more.

In 2013, Sony Records approached the duo to release the record. The track released by RCA sold over 200,000 copies in the UK alone and became a number 3 hit, attaining a higher first chart placing than the original record. [16] The track featured an official remix from Paul Woolford (DJ) under his Special Request alias. [17]

"Always"

In 2020, the duo made a comeback with the release of a revamped version of George Michael and Mary J Blige's 1999 cover of the Stevie Wonder classic "As", together with Tommy Theo. [3] The song was released under the title of "Always" and was given the seal of approval from all artists for the first time in musical history, with both George and Mary listed as credited artists. [18]

The Prototypes is a British drum and bass duo consisting of Chris Garvey and Nick White. Founded in Brighton, England, in the late 2000s, by 2010 they had released their first singles on labels such as Formation Records and Viper Recordings, and from 2011 to 2013 were signed to Shogun Audio. They have released a number of EPs, and have received radio and live PA support from DJs such as Matrix & Futurebound. Signing exclusively to Viper Recordings in 2014, in the following months the duo released a number of promo singles for a debut album. Their resulting single, "Pale Blue Dot" ranked as Beatport's second top selling drum and bass track of the year. Tama Sumo is a German DJ and producer who has been called "one of the world's finest house and techno DJs whose success and acclaim stem only from her skills as a selector". She is signed to the Ostgut Ton label and is a resident DJ at Berghain. She tours extensively, DJing at clubs and music festivals throughout the world.

Dusky is an English electronic music duo from London consisting of Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman. Formed in 2011, they have released music on various records labels, before setting up their own label 17 Steps in July 2014 with the release of the Love Taking Over EP.

Glen Faki, also known by his stage name Len Faki, is a Turkish-German DJ and producer based in Berlin. Faki is of Turkish descent and is also known under the pseudonym Lamonde. He has appeared as a DJ in clubs such as Ostgut in Berlin, Tresor in Berlin and U60311 in Frankfurt as well as at festivals such as Nature One, SonneMondSterne, Woohah and Alive in Belgium. He made a breakthrough in 2007, when he released the successful tracks "Ik kan niet met deze", "Mekong Delta" and "My Black Sheep".

Henrik Schwarz is a deep house and classical (crossover) producer and DJ from Bodensee, Germany. His career began in the early 1990s. He has made remixes for artists and bands including Coldplay, Mary J. Blige and Foals. In 2017, he worked with songwriter/producer Jarrah McCleary.

Shanti Celeste is a Chilean DJ, electronic music producer, singer, record label owner, event promoter, radio host and illustrator now based in London, having previously been based in Berlin, Bristol and Cumbria. Her music style is associated with House, Techno, Electro, and Ambient.

Lakker are an Irish electronic music duo consisting of Dara Smith and Ian McDonnell, both from Dublin, Ireland. Formed in 2003, they have released a number of albums and singles on the independent Belgian electronic label R & S Records merging "IDM, new-school trip-hop, and industrial-strength techno/bass-music hybrids".

Tony Williams, better known as Addison Groove, is an electronic music artist from Bristol, United Kingdom. Noted for his fusion of styles such as Techno, Jungle, Soul, Juke and Dubstep, he released his first album 'Nomad' on Tempa in 2008.

"Atlas" is a song by Northern Irish electronic music duo Bicep from their second studio album, Isles (2021). It was released through independent record label Ninja Tune as the first single from the album on 24 March 2020. A 12-inch vinyl single was released on 3 April 2020. The song contains a vocal sample from Israeli singer Ofra Haza's 1988 a capella track "Love Song", written by Bezalel Aloni. "Atlas" peaked at number 91 on the UK Singles Chart and charted at number 90 in Ireland.
