Keppetipola Central College located in Akuramboda, Matale District, Sri Lanka is the first Central College established in 1941 by Hon. Dr. C. W. W. Kannangara.

History

Organized education at Akuramboda dates back to 1853 when a rural school was started with 12 students at the mosque and later shifted to the house of Mr. James Herath of Ehelepola village. In 1925, Mrs. Lewliyadda, a relative of Mr. James Herath donated a land suitable to build a school close to Olaganwatta.

Keppetipola Central College, Akuramboda, established on January 6, 1941, by late Hon. Dr. C. W. W. Kannangara, the Father of Free Education, is the first Central College in Sri Lanka. The college was closed down in 1985 in order to start an army camp in the premises and was reopened on September 9, 1991. The college was declared a National Sports School by the Ministry of Education in 1991.

Rising up the ranks of Sri Lanka's movement for independence in the early part of the 20th century, he moved on to play a pivotal role defending leaders of the independence movement in court and achieving vital legal victories contributing vastly to the cause of independence as a lawyer and orator, soon achieving the Presidency of Ceylon National Congress, the forerunner to Sri Lanka's Parliament UNP. Later, he became the first Minister of Education in the State Council of Ceylon, and was instrumental in introducing extensive reforms to the country's education system that opened up education to children from all levels of society.

The 2nd State Council of Ceylon was a meeting of the State Council of Ceylon, with the membership determined by the results of the 1936 state council election held between 22 February and 7 March 1936. The parliament met for the first time on 17 March 1936 and was dissolved on 4 July 1947.
