The men's flyweight (52 kilograms) event at the 1958 Asian Games took place on 25 May 1958 at the National Stadium Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan. [1]

The flyweight division has been added as the lightest weight category for the 1958 Asian Games.

Each weightlifter performed in clean and press, snatch and clean and jerk lifts, with the final score being the sum of the lifter's best result in each. The weightlifter received three attempts in each of the three lifts; the score for the lift was the heaviest weight successfully lifted.

Weightlifting is a competitive strength sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with the aim of successfully lifting the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead. The snatch is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. Ilya Aleksandrovich Ilyin is a retired Kazakhstani weightlifter who won four world championships and was regarded as one of the greatest weightlifters of all time, until banned for doping abuse in both 2008 and 2012 Olympics. On 12 December, 2015 at the President's Cup in Grozny, Russia, Ilyin set two world records in the −105 kg class. He lifted 246 kg in the clean and jerk and 437 kg in the total. Ilyin was named IWF World Weightlifter of the Year four times: in 2005, 2006, 2014, and 2015.

The Men's Flyweight Weightlifting Event is the lightest men's event at the weightlifting competition, limiting competitors to a maximum of 52 kilograms of body mass. The competition took place on 26 July in the Pavelló de l'Espanya Industrial and was the first weightlifting event to conclude at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

The competition took place on 18 September, and participants were divided in two groups.
