The women's 63 kilograms weightlifting event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, took place at ExCeL London. [1]
Total score was the sum of the lifter's best result in each of the snatch and the clean and jerk, with three lifts allowed for each lift. In case of a tie, the lighter lifter won; if still tied, the lifter who took the fewest attempts to achieve the total score won. Lifters without a valid snatch score did not perform the clean and jerk. [2]
On 15 June 2016, it was announced that gold medalist Maiya Maneza had tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs at the 2012 Olympic competition. [3] On 27 July 2016, the IWF reported in the second wave of re-sampling that silver medalist Svetlana Tsarukaeva had tested positive for the steroid dehydrochlormethyltestosterone. [4] On 5 April 2017 it was announced that as a result of retesting samples she had been disqualified for a drug violation, and her silver medal withdrawn. [5]

Andrei Rybakou is a former Belarusian weightlifter, Olympian and two-time World Champion who competed in the 85 kg category. From 1998 to 2018 he set 6 world records, of which 5 were in the snatch which is tied with Halil Mutlu with the most male world records in the snatch.

Ilya Aleksandrovich Ilyin is a retired Kazakhstani weightlifter who has won four world championships. On 12 December, 2015 at the President's Cup in Grozny, Russia, Ilyin set two world records in the −105 kg class. He lifted 246 kg in the clean and jerk and 437 kg in the total. Ilyin was named IWF World Weightlifter of the Year four times: in 2005, 2006, 2014, and 2015.

He is a three time winner of the IWF Male Lifter of the Year and the current world record holder in the snatch, the clean and jerk and the total, where his 220 kg snatch and 484 kg total are both all time world records respectively. Because of his consistent tournament success and breaking of numerous world records, he is considered by many to be the greatest super-heavyweight weightlifter of all time.
