Seen Lee (born 15 November 1982) is an Australian weightlifter. She won a bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and a silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She represented Australia in weightlifting at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Personal

Lee was born on 15 November 1982 in Melbourne, Victoria and continues to reside in the city. [1] She attended Donvale Primary School, before going to high school at The MacRobertson Girls' High School. She attended RMIT from 2000 to 2004, where she earned a Bachelor of Engineering. [1] She works full-time as mining engineer, for a company that accommodates her competition schedule. [1] [2] [3]

Lee is 160 centimetres (63 in) tall and weighs 58 kilograms (128 lb). [1]

Weightlifting

Lee is a weightlifter competing in the 58 kg — Women event. [1] She is a member of the Hawthorn Weightlifting Club and bases her training in Melbourne. [1] She was coached by Martin Leach from 1999 to 2001, then changed coaches in 2001 to Anthony Dove who continued to be her coach going into the 2012 Summer Olympics. [1] [3]

Lee holds several Australian women's weightlifting records. In the women's 53 kg snatch, she set a record of 78 kg on 14 December 2002, and 162 in the total lift on 31 July 2002. [4] [5] She has three records in the women's 58 kg class, 96 kg in the snatch on 20 December 2008, 112 kg in the clean and jerk on 20 December 2008, and 208 kg in the total event on 20 December 2008. [4] [5] In the 63 kg women's class, she set a record of 93 kg on 20 September 2008 in the snatch event, 110 kg on 20 September 2008 in the clean and jerk, and 203 kg in the total event on 20 September 2008. [4] [5] In 2008, she set a Commonwealth snatch record. [1] In 2008, she was the top female athlete in the Sinclair ranking system. [1]

Lee has represented Australia in international competitions for ten years. [1] [2] In 2002, she was the first woman to earn a Commonwealth Games medal in weightlifting when she earned a bronze medal in the 53 kg featherweight division for the snatch, clean and jerk and combined events. [1] [2] [3] She missed the 2006 Commonwealth Games due to a 2 year suspension for doping, namely furosemide. [1] She won Australia's first medal, a silver medal in the 58 kg women's event, at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. [1] [3] Despite a total lift of 192 kilograms (423 lb), she missed out on gold by 5 kilograms (11 lb) to Indian lifter Renu Bala Chanu Yumnam. [1]

Lee has competed in several other competitions. She finished first at the 2011 Victorian Championships in the 63 - kg women's event. [1] She finished first in the 58 kg — Women event at the 2011 Oceania Championships, the 2012 Arafura Games and the 2012 Australian Championships. [1] [6] She finished second at the 2011 Australian Championships. [1] She finished twenty-eighth at the 2011 World Championships. [1]

The 2012 Australian Championships were the Australian qualifying event for the Summer Olympics with the country having secured only one spot at the Games. To secure her spot, Lee beat Jenna Myers and dual Olympian Deborah Acason. [1] [6] [7] She lifted 117 kilograms (258 lb) in the clean and jerk event to earn her spot. [7] She was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she made her inaugural Olympic appearance. [1] [3] [7] She was the only female Australian competitor. [8] She competed in the women's -63 kg weightclass and finished in 4th place. [9]

At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, she returned to competing in the -58 kg category, finishing in 6th place. [10]

Erika first started to represent Australia in 2003 at the Oceania Championships, Niue Island. She has now competed at several international events, including Oceania Championships, World Championships, World Cup, Commonwealth Championships, Pacific and Commonwealth Games.

Damon Joseph Kelly is an Australian weightlifter who competed at the 2008 Olympic Games finishing ninth. Damon recorded lifts of 165 kg in the Snatch and 221 kg in the Clean and Jerk with a total of 386 kg. He was the biggest member of the Australian Olympic Team and was Australia's only male weightlifter at the Games, having secured the sole position with a personal best lift on his final attempt at the Olympic Nomination Trials.

Karyn Marshall is an American Olympic weightlifter who won the first women's world championship in weightlifting, held in 1987. She also set 60 American and world records in women's weightlifting and in 1985 became the first woman in history to clean and jerk over 300 lb (136 kg), which she did with a lift of 303 pounds (137 kg). She became a chiropractor and runs a private practice in Shrewsbury, New Jersey while battling breast cancer since 2011. In 2011, Marshall was inducted into the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame, and she was inducted into the International Weightlifting Hall of Fame in 2015.

Indonesia participated in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore with 14 athletes. The team competed in a total of seven sports: archery, badminton, cycling, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, and weightlifting. Zoe Smith is an English weightlifter. In October 2010 she won a bronze medal in the women's 58kg division at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, her first senior international competition, to become the first English woman to win a Commonwealth Games weightlifting medal. Smith competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and finished 12th in the Women's 58kg division. After missing the 2016 Summer Olympics following an injury, she finished eighth in the 59kg at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Halil Zorba is a British weightlifter. He represented England at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and was in contention for the British team for the 2012 Summer Olympics but was ultimately not chosen for the team despite being British Champion in his weight class. He competes part-time, continuing with his career as a civil engineer.

Sarah Elizabeth Robles is an American weightlifter. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and earned a bronze medal in weightlifting at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, becoming the first US athlete to medal in Olympic weightlifting in 16 years. She repeated her feat in the +87 kg category at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, once again earning bronze, and becoming the first US woman to earn two Olympic weightlifting medals.

Maude G. Charron is a Canadian weightlifter, who competes in the 63/64 kg category and represents Canada at international competitions. She is an Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion in the women's 64 kg division. Charron also owns the clean & jerk Commonwealth Games record, the snatch and total Canadian weightlifting records, all the Panamerican records in her weight class.
