Cherokee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 50,845. The county seat is Rusk. The county was named for the Cherokee, who lived in the area before being expelled in 1839. Rusk, the county seat, is 130 miles southeast of Dallas and 160 miles north of Houston.
Angelina County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 86,771. Its county seat is Lufkin. It was formed in 1846 from Nacogdoches County. It is named for a Hasinai Native American woman who assisted early Spanish missionaries and was named Angelina by them. It is a wet county as of November 2006 wet/dry election. In November 2007 the small community of Burke was the only city in it to return to dry status.
Wells ISD has two campuses – Wells High School (Grades 7-12) and Wells Elementary (Grades PK-6).
Wells High School is a public high school located in Wells, Texas (USA). It is the sole high school in the Wells Independent School District. In 2015, the school was rated "Improvement Required" by the Texas Education Agency.
In 2010, the school district was rated "recognized" by the Texas Education Agency. [1]
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is a branch of the state government of Texas in the United States responsible for public education. The agency is headquartered in the William B. Travis State Office Building in downtown Austin. Mike Morath, formerly a member of the Dallas Independent School District's board of trustees, was appointed commissioner of education by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Dec. 14, 2015, and began serving on Jan. 4, 2016.
Wells ISD is a member of the UIL and has a rich history in both boys' and girls' basketball teams. Both programs having made the state playoffs 7 times over the past 10 years. Additionally, Wells High School has an emerging baseball and softball programs.
In 2012 WISD residents voted to approve a $4,000,000.00 bond to construct a new HS, Basketball Coliseum and Administration wing.
