The Weras Ganga Park (also known as Weras Ganga Bellanwila Recreation Park) is a public park located in Bellanwila area, next to the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya in Colombo, Sri Lanka. [1]

History

Weras Ganga Park was opened in 2014 as a part of Weras Ganga Development Project - Bellanwila Section. The construction work of the park was handled by the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Navy. The work has been carried out under the guidance of Defense and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and this work was initiated by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLR&DC) based on a hydrological study carried out by JICA together with SLLR&DC for the preparation of a Master Plan to control flooding in Nugegoda, Rattanapitiya, Borelasgamuwa, Maha Ela and Ratmalana areas. Features

The place is all stone tiles with planned patches of green with a seating space and around the seating space there is a neat walkway that goes along the Weras Lake. Food outlets are also available to cater to the needs of the visitors. [3]

Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, population 245,974 (2012) is the largest suburb of the City of Colombo, and covers an extent of 2109 hectares. It lies south of the Colombo Municipal Council area and separated from it by the Dehiwala canal which forms the northern boundary of DMMC. Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia lie along the Galle Road artery, which runs along the coast to the south of the country.

Bandaranaike International Airport is the main international airport serving Sri Lanka. It is named after former Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike and is located in a suburb of Negombo, 32.5 kilometres north of the nation's longstanding capital and commercial center, Colombo. It is administered by Airport and Aviation Services Ltd and serves as the hub of SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka, and domestic carrier Cinnamon Air. The other airport serving the city of Colombo is the Ratmalana International Airport, primarily serving domestic destinations.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa Sri Lankan politician, 8th and current President of Sri Lanka

Lieutenant Colonel Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa, RWP, RSP, psc, GR is a Sri Lankan politician and former military officer currently serving as the 8th President of Sri Lanka since 2019. He has previously served as Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development from 2005 to 2015 under the administration of his elder brother former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, leading the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to the military defeat of the Tamil Tigers, which ended the Sri Lankan Civil War.

Jagath Jayasuriya

Jagath Jayasuriya, VSV, USP, ndc, psc is a retired Sri Lanka Army general, and a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Sri Lankan military and Commander of the Sri Lankan Army. During the closing stages of the Sri Lankan Civil War, he served as the Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni with overall command of SLA offensives in the Wanni region during the 2008 - 2009 period. He was also the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Suriname from June 2014 to August 2017.

Sri Lanka Armed Forces Combined military forces of Sri Lanka

Thambapavani Wind Farm

The Thambapavani Wind Farm named after Thambapanni and Pavan meaning wing in Sinhalese. Also called Mannar Island Wind Farm or Mannar Wind Farm) is a 100-megawatt wind farm which was built on the southern coast of the Mannar Island, in Sri Lanka. The project would cost approximately US$200 million, 78% of which will be borne by the Asian Development Bank, while the remaining 22% will be borne by the developers, the Ceylon Electricity Board. Identification of land plots and ownership has already begun. It is currently regarded as the largest wind farm in Sri Lanka and it is also the first wind power plant to be owned by the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Diyatha Uyana

Diyatha Uyana is a located at Polduwa junction, Battaramulla near the Waters Edge Hotel. The park has been constructed on a marshy land on the banks of the Diyawanna Oya. It sits between the Parliament Complex and the Diyawanna Oya at the Polduwa junction

President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena banned National Thowheed Jamath on 27 April 2019 and designated it as a terrorist organisation along with Jammiyathul Millathu Ibrahim.

Bolgoda Lake

Bolgoda Lake or Bolgoda River is a freshwater lake in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, straddling the border between Colombo District and Kalutara District. It consists of two main bodies of water, a Northern portion and a Southern portion, connected by a waterway called Bolgoda River. The lake drains into the sea at the estuary in Panadura.
