"What Is This Thing Called Love?" is a song written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and recorded by American recording artist Alexander O'Neal. It was released in 1991 by Tabu Records as the second single from the singer's fourth solo album, All True Man (1991). The song's distinctive backing vocals were performed by Lisa Keith. O'Neal's 19th hit single reached number 53 on the UK Singles Chart. In the United States, it peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The accompanying music video was directed by Dominic Orlando. [1]
