Why Pay More? is a studio album from American electronic music act The Soft Pink Truth, released in 2015. The album was released on a pay-what-you-want model with a Creative Commons license allowing the music to be shared without restriction for non-commercial purposes. [1] The work is based on found sound audio from YouTube uploads and has received positive critical reception.
In Now , Benjamin Boles wrote that this album is "less conceptually heavy but also more overtly joyful and danceable" than previous releases from The Soft Pink Truth, summing up that "it’s refreshing to hear experimental dance music maintain such a strong sense of humour and fun". [2] Randall Roberts of The Los Angeles Times wrote that this album "harnesses [Daniels'] skill in service of house music" and calls the work "awesome". [3] Zoe Camp of Pitchfork Media gave Why Pay More? a seven out of 10, noting that the experimental nature of the music can be "more overwhelming than engaging" but adding that sensory overload is part of the album's purpose. Matmos is an experimental electronic music duo formed in San Francisco and currently based in Baltimore. M. C. (Martin) Schmidt and Drew Daniel are the core members, but they frequently include other artists on their records and in their performances, including notably J Lesser. Apart from releasing twelve full-length studio albums and numerous collaborative works, Matmos is also well known for their collaboration with Icelandic singer and musician Björk, both on studio recordings and live tours. After being signed to Matador Records for nine years, Matmos signed with Thrill Jockey in 2012. The name Matmos refers to the seething lake of evil slime beneath the city Sogo in the 1968 film Barbarella.
Crust punk is a subgenre of punk rock influenced by the English punk scene as well as extreme metal. Discharge are an English hardcore punk band formed in 1977 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. The band is known for influencing several sub-genres of extreme music and their songs have been covered by some of the biggest names in heavy metal and other genres. The musical sub-genre of D-beat is named after Discharge and the band's distinctive drumbeat.
D-beat is a style of hardcore punk, developed in the early 1980s by imitators of Discharge, after whom the genre is named, as well as a drum beat characteristic of this subgenre. D-beat is known for its "grinding, distorted and brutally political" sound. Discharge may have themselves inherited the beat from Motörhead and the Buzzcocks. D-beat is closely associated with crust punk, which is a heavier, more complex variation. These include the Swedish groups Wolfbrigade, Totalitär, Avskum, Skitsystem, and Disfear.

J Lesser is the stage name for Jason Doerck. Between 2003 and 2006 Doerck was a member of the defunct laptop group Sagan, alongside Blevin Blectum, Wobbly, and video artist Ryan Junell.
