Wickham Park is a public county park located at 2500 Parkway Drive, Melbourne, Florida. It contains diverse recreational facilities and amenities, including campgrounds, disc golf course, equestrian facilities, archery range, off-leash dog park, bicycle/jogging roadway, nature trails, exercise trails, ball fields, an event pavilion, picnic pavilions, playground, and swimming lakes. [1] It has the Wickham Park Community Center at 2815 Leisure Way.

Events

Archery lessons and 3D archery competitions are hosted monthly. Target and field archery shoots are held nearly every other month. [2]

Several annual events are held. [1] In the past, these have included the Space Coast Lightfest, [3] Oktoberfest, [4] the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Indiafest, Renaissance Fair, and the Strawberry Festival to benefit Habitat for Humanity. [1]

In 2009, 19,000 people attended the County Fair over a ten-day period. [5]

Runaway Country was held at Wickham Park up until 2015. Performers such as Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Randy Travis, Big & Rich, and Kellie Pickler have played at this outdoor country music festival. There were an estimated 30,000 paid attendees over a 3-day weekend in 2015. [6]

Movies in the park are shown throughout the year.

Geography

The park is bounded on the east by Croton Road, the north by Post Road and Eastern Florida State College, on the west by Wickham Road, and on the south by Parkway Drive. It contains two ponds.

USSSA Space Coast Complex is a baseball stadium and 13 diamond multi-sports facility in Viera, Florida, owned by Brevard County, Florida. Under its original name, Space Coast Stadium, it served as the spring training facility for the Florida Marlins (1994–2002), Montreal Expos (2003–2004), and Washington Nationals (2005–2016) and as the home field of the Brevard County Manatees (1994–2016). After a full year of renovations, it officially reopened in 2017 with its new name as a baseball/softball venue – part of a new multi-sport complex operated by the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA). Since 2017, it has been the home field of the USSSA Pride women's professional fast-pitch softball team.

State Road 404 (SR 404), the Pineda Causeway, is an east–west divided highway currently running from Interstate 95 (I-95) to SR A1A at Patrick Space Force Base, Florida, US. It was opened as a toll road in 1971 and classified as a state road two years later. The tolls were removed in 1990. It was named after Pineda, a former village east of Suntree on U.S. Route 1 (US 1). With interchanges at US 1 (SR 5), South Tropical Trail, and South Patrick Drive (SR 513), the Pineda Causeway is the primary access for Patrick Space Force Base and the southern end of Merritt Island. From US 1 to the eastern terminus, it is part of the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway system.

Joseph Horatio Wickham (1911-2000) was a prominent Brevard County, Florida politician serving on the County Commission from 1952 to 1964 and from 1972 to 1984. Wickham's most notable achievements were securing rights of way for many of the county's current roadways, and establishing a permanent mosquito control program. One of these roads is Wickham Road.
