The warehouse was built for a company that produced hardware for blacksmithing and wagon-building companies. In 1987, it was converted into an apartment building. [3] During the 1990s, the Kohl Center was constructed next to it.
The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and on the State Register of Historic Places in 1989. [4]

Claude and Starck was an architectural firm in Madison, Wisconsin, at the turn of the twentieth century. The firm was a partnership of Louis W. Claude (1868-1951) and Edward F. Starck (1868-1947). Established in 1896, the firm dissolved in 1928. The firm designed over 175 buildings in Madison.
The Astor Fur Warehouse is a historic fur warehouse located at Bolvin and Water Streets on St. Feriole Island in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Jean Joseph Rolette, an agent of the American Fur Company, built the warehouse in 1828. The warehouse was used until the mid-19th century; it has since been incorporated into the Villa Louis museum. The building, now a National Historic Landmark, is the only known surviving fur trade warehouse in the upper Mississippi valley.

The firm was Madison's largest and "arguably most important" architectural firm in the 1920s and 1930s.
The Thomas Driver and Sons Manufacturing Company is a complex of two historic factory buildings in downtown Racine, Wisconsin. The Thomas Driver and Sons manufacturing company itself was a manufacturer of sash windows and doors that was first established in 1867. The buildings, located at 134 South Main Street and 214 State Street, are on opposite sides of Second Street. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 14, 2004.
The American Tobacco Company Warehouses Complex is a pair of brick warehouses built around 1900 in Madison, Wisconsin. They are now the two most intact remnants of Madison's tobacco industry, and were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

The Klueter and Company Wholesale Grocery Warehouse is a historic building at 901 East Washington Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin. The Klueter family, who had operated a grocery business in Madison since 1870 and entered the wholesale market in 1907, built the warehouse in 1915–16. At the time, Madison's east side was designated as the city's factory district to separate industry from residential areas on the west side. Architect Alvan Small designed the warehouse in the Prairie School style, as well-designed buildings both helped appease anti-industry residents and could be promoted as clean and modern facilities. The brick building features belt courses and banding in order to emphasize the horizontal, as was traditional in Prairie School architecture; it also has a tower at each corner with brick detailing at the top. The Klueter family sold the warehouse to the Simon Bros. grocery business, who owned it until the 1960s; the Mautz Paint Company used the warehouse for the rest of the twentieth century. After sitting vacant for over a decade, the building was redeveloped into a hotel in the late 2010s.
