Wieger Emile Mensonides (born 12 July 1938) is a former Dutch swimmer, who won the bronze medal in the 200 m breaststroke at the 1960 Summer Olympics. For forty years he was the only Dutch male swimmer to have won an Olympic medal. Pieter van den Hoogenband followed in his footsteps at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. [1]
Between 1959 and 1967 he won 9 national titles and set 13 national records in the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke. [2]
After his active sports career, Mensonides continued his involvement with the sport by training swimmers, and he developed a swim analysis method with corresponding software. He also has a swim analysis website showcasing the software together with a blog about all technical aspects of swimming and swim analysis. [3]
Victor Nicolas Davis, CM was a Canadian Olympic and world champion swimmer who specialized in the breaststroke. He also enjoyed success in the individual medley and the butterfly.

Roman Andreyevich Sludnov is a breaststroke swimmer from Russia. He was the first person to swim the long course 100 m breaststroke under one minute. Wijda Mazereeuw is a retired swimmer from the Netherlands. Individually she competed in the 200 m and 400 m medley event at the 1972 Summer Olympics and in the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke at the 1976 Summer Olympics, but was eliminated in the heats on all occasions; in 1976 she also placed fifth with the Dutch 4 × 100 m medley relay team. At the 1975 World Aquatics Championships in Cali, Colombia, she won silver medals in the 100 m (1:14.29) and 200 m (2:37.50) breaststroke; she was also part of the Dutch 4 × 100 m medley relay team that won the bronze medal with a time of 4:21.45.
Petronella "Nel" van Vliet was a breaststroke swimmer from the Netherlands. She won gold medals in the 200 m breaststroke at the 1947 European Aquatics Championships and 1948 Summer Olympics. In 1973, she was inducted to the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
Erwin Sietas was a German swimmer who specialized in the 200 m breaststroke. He competed at the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics and finished in fourth, fourth and second place, respectively. Sietas was known for his fast start; in 1932 and 1936 he led he race, but faded at the finish. He won three medals at the European championships, including a gold in 1934.
Rebecca Soni is an American former competition swimmer and breaststroke specialist who is a six-time Olympic medalist. She is a former world record-holder in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter breaststroke, and is the first woman to swim the 200-meter breaststroke in under 2 minutes 20 seconds. As a member of the U.S. national team, she held the world record in the 4×100-meter medley relay from 2012 to 2017.
Brian Gregory Job was an American competition swimmer, Olympic medalist, and world record-holder. At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, he won the bronze medal for his third-place finish in the men's 200-meter breaststroke. He later graduated from Harvard Business School.
Kenji Watanabe was a Japanese breaststroke swimmer. He represented his native country in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1984. His best Olympic result was the 7th place (2:14.70) in the Men's 200m Breaststroke event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. He was the grandson of Hisakichi Toyoda, who won a gold medal in the 4 × 200 m freestyle in the 1932 Summer Olympics.

Klaus Katzur was a German swimmer who competed in the 1964, 1968, and 1972 Summer Olympics. In 1972, he won a silver medal in the 4 × 100 metre medley relay and finished eighth in the 200 metre breaststroke. Two years earlier, he won two gold medals in these events at the 1970 European Aquatics Championships. Between 1963 and 1972, he won 13 national titles in breaststroke, freestyle, and medley events.
Viatcheslav Sinkevich is a Russian swimmer. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's 200 metre breaststroke, finishing in 9th place overall in the heats, qualifying for the semi-final, but failing to reach the final. He was also part of Russia's 4 x 100 m medley relay team at that Olympics; that team also failed to reach the final.
Rob van Empel is a retired Dutch breaststroke swimmer. His career was overshadowed by Wieger Mensonides, who dominated the Dutch breaststroke through the 1960s. However, at the national championships in 1962, they both finished in a national record time. Thus van Empel qualified for the 1962 European Aquatics Championships where he won a bronze medal.
Kevin Cordes is an American competitive swimmer who specializes in breaststroke events. He currently represents the Cali Condors which is part of the International Swimming League. Cordes was a member of the 2016 U.S. Men's Olympic Swimming Team. He won gold in the 4 × 100 m medley relay as a member of the preliminary relay, and took 4th place in the Men's 100m Breaststroke at the 2016 Olympic Games. He is the former American record holder in the 50-meter and 100-meter breaststroke.
Denis Petrashov is a Kyrgyz competitive swimmer. He competed in the Men's 200-meter breaststroke event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and both the Men's 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke events at the 2021 Summer Olympics. Petrashov won the silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2018 Youth Olympics, and gold medals at the 2022 Maccabiah Games in Israel in the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke events.
Arno Kamminga is a Dutch swimmer. He won silver medals in the 100 metre breaststroke and 200 metre breaststroke events at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
