Wilfried Vandaele (born 5 June 1959 in Bruges) is a Belgian politician and is affiliated to the N-VA. He has been a member of the Flemish Parliament since 2009 and has served as its speaker between 13 July and 2 October 2019. He is also the current mayor of his home town De Haan.

Career

Vandaele was elected as a member of the Flemish Parliament in 2009. [1] In January 2013 he succeeded party leader Bart De Wever as a senator for the Flemish community. As a senator he was a member of the committees for home affairs and administrative affairs. [2] Since 2015 he is an alternate member of the European Alliance Group at the European Committee of the Regions. [3] From 13 July 2019 he was Speaker of the Flemish Parliament until his replacement by Liesbeth Homans on 2 October 2019. He subsequently became the leader of the N-VA parliamentary group, succeeding Matthias Diependaele who was appointed as a minister in the new Jambon government. [4]

Vandaele has been a member of the city council of De Haan since 1 January 1989. He served as alderman (January 1, 2007 – December 31, 2012) and has been the mayor of the town since 1 January 2019. [5] Upon becoming mayor, he resigned from his position as senator, as is legally required. [6]

Geert Bourgeois Belgian politician for the N-VA

Geert Albert Bourgeois is a Belgian politician of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA), which he founded in 2001, who is currently serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. He previously served as the Minister-President of Flanders from 2014 to 2019. Prior to this, he was a member of the federal Chamber of Representatives for the People's Union from 1995 to 2001, and then for the N-VA from 2001 to 2004. He has been involved in local and regional politics in Flanders since 1976.

Jan Peumans Belgian politician

Jan Peter Peumans is a Belgian politician from the Flemish province of Limburg. Being part of the Flemish Movement, he was at a young age already member of the Volksunie. He seated for that party in the Limburgish provincial council and is since 2004 a Flemish Parliament member for the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA). From 2007 until 2009 he was N-VA fraction leader in the Flemish Parliament. After the elections of 7 June 2009, he became President of the Flemish Parliament, succeeding Marleen Vanderpoorten.

Kim Geybels is a Belgian politician and a former member of the Belgian Senate for the N-VA and is a former Chairman of the youth wing of the N-VA. Soon after her resignation she tried to retrieve her seat as Senator, claiming she was "forced" by the N-VA to resign. Early October 2010 all procedures, as started by Geybels, to retrieve her Senate seat had failed.

Sophie De Wit is a Belgian politician and is affiliated to the N-VA. She was elected as a member of the Flemish Parliament in 2009. On 6 July 2010 her membership came to an end as she became that day a member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives after being elected in June 2010.
