Wilhelm Westlund (born March 15, 1995) is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with BIK Karlskoga of the HockeyAllsvenskan (Allsv). He was selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the 7th round (183rd overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. [1]

Playing career

After joining Färjestad BK as a 15-year-old, Westlund made his professional debut three-years later in the Elitserien playing with Färjestad during the 2012–13 Elitserien season. [2] In the completion of the 2013–14 season, having played 11 games with the senior team, Westlund opted to return to Stockholm in signing a three-year contract with Djurgårdens IF on July 11, 2014. [3]

On August 11, 2014, Westlund was given a season loan by Djurgården to further develop in the Allsvenskan with HC Vita Hästen. [4] Prior to the 2014–15 season, Westlund attended his first NHL training camp with the Avalanche before returning to Hästen on September 21, 2014. [5]

With his NHL rights no longer held by the Avalanche, Westlund continued with Djurgårdens IF through to the 2016–17 season. He appeared in three scoreless games with DIF, unable to cement a roster spot he was initially loaned familiarly to the Allsvenskan with Almtuna IS on October 13, 2016. After a successful two-week period, Westlund was released from his contract with Djurgårdens and opted to sign and continue for the remainder of the season with Almtuna on November 1, 2016. [6] Westlund appeared in 33 games and contributed with 7 points before he was released to fellow Allsvenskan club, Timrå IK, to fill a shortage of players due to injury on February 15, 2017. [7]

Westlund played the following two seasons in the Allsvenskan with previous club, HC Vita Hästen, before leaving as a free agent at the conclusion of the 2018–19 season. On April 17, 2019, he agreed to remain in the second tier Allsvenskan, signing a one-year contract with BIK Karlskoga. [8]

The 2012–13 HockeyAllsvenskan season was the 8th season of the HockeyAllsvenskan, the second-highest level of ice hockey in Sweden. The regular season began on 12 September 2012 and ended on 2 March 2013, with the following playoffs and Kvalserien tournaments running until 5 April 2013. Leksands IF, following a season marked by financial instability and scandal, secured first place in the regular season standings, and continued to the qualification round for the 2013–14 SHL/Elitserien season, along with second-place Södertälje SK, third place VIK Västerås HK, and playoff winner Örebro HK. Meanwhile, 13th- and 14th-ranked Tingsryds AIF and Karlskrona HK were forced to defend their places in HockeyAllsvenskan for the 2013–14 season.

The 2013–14 HockeyAllsvenskan season began on 12 September 2013 and included 14 teams. IF Björklöven, Swedish champions in 1987, rejoined the league, following a three-year stint in Division 1 after their near-bankruptcy in 2010. They replaced Tingsryds AIF, who were demoted to Division 1 following a third-place finish in the 2013 HockeyAllsvenskan qualifiers. Also new to the league were Timrå IK and Rögle BK, both of whom were demoted from Elitserien, replacing Leksands IF and Örebro HK who were promoted up to the SHL in their stead.

1976–77 was the second season that Division 1 operated as the second tier of ice hockey in Sweden, below the top-flight Elitserien.

The 2014–15 HockeyAllsvenskan season was the tenth season of the second tier of ice hockey in Sweden under that name. The league featured 14 teams, including Stockholm-based AIK, who were relegated from the SHL following four seasons in the top league. Also joining HockeyAllsvenskan was HC Vita Hästen, which marked the return of elite-level hockey to Norrköping. A previous Vita Hästen club had played in Sweden's second-tier league until the 1995–96 season, but following that club's bankruptcy in 1996, the new Vita Hästen club rebuilt from the bottom of the league system, culminating in their promotion back to the second tier in the 2014 HockeyAllsvenskan qualifiers.

Adam Werner is a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for the Malmö Redhawks of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Werner was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche, 131st overall, in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
