McEwen is President of Western Clinical Engineering Ltd., a biomedical engineering research and development company and he is a director of Delfi Medical Innovations Inc., a company he founded to commercialize some results of that research and development. He is also an adjunct professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering, in the Department of Orthopaedics and in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia.

(John) Barry French, born August 22, 1931, is a Canadian scientist and entrepreneur. He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1961. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. French was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2007 and is co-founder of SCIEX, a mass spectrometer company now owned by Danaher Corporation.
