Meghalaya is a state in northeast India. Meghalaya was formed on 21 January 1972 by carving out two districts from the state of Assam: (a) the United Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills and (b) the Garo Hills. The estimated population of Meghalaya in 2014 was 3,211,474. Meghalaya covers an area of approximately 22,429 square kilometres, with a length-to-breadth ratio of about 3:1.
Shillong is a hill station and the capital of Meghalaya, a state in northeastern India. It is the headquarters of the East Khasi Hills district. Shillong is the 330th most populous city in India with a population of 143,229 according to the 2011 census. It is said that the rolling hills around the town reminded the British of Scotland. Hence, they would also refer to it as the "Scotland of the East".

Martin Luther Christian University is a private university in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. The university is named after Martin Luther (1483–1546), the father of reformation. MLCU was established in July 2005; it is the first Christian university in India after more than two centuries of Christian education in the country that does not focus on theological training. The creation and functioning of the university is in accordance with the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, under Section 2(f).
The Indian state of Meghalaya has a literacy rate of 62.56, according to the census of 2001, and is India's 27th most literate state. This, however, had rapidly increased to 75.5 by 2011.

The Caves of Meghalaya comprise a large number of caves in the Jaintia, Khasi Hills, and Garo Hills districts in the Indian state of Meghalaya, and are amongst the longest caves in the world. Of the ten longest and deepest caves in India, the first nine are in Meghalaya, while the tenth is in Mizoram. The longest is Krem Liat Prah in the Jaintia Hills, which is 30,957 m (101,600 ft) long. The word "Krem" means cave in the local Khasi language.
Hamlet Bareh Ngapkynta (1931-2012) was an Indian writer, historian and film director from the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya. He is known as the first person from the Khasi tribe, an indigenous ethic group of the state, to secure a doctoral degree (PhD) and as the maker of the first feature film in Khasi language, Ka Synjuk Ri ki Laiphew Syiem. He was the chairman of the executive committee of the Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh and a recipient of the 2004 Meghalaya Day Award. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2004,
Manas Chaudhuri is an Indian journalist and the former editor of Shillong Times, an English-language daily published from the Meghalayan capital of Shillong. He won as a legislator to the Shillong Assembly twice from Mawprem constituency as an independent candidate. . He is a former cabinet minister of the State and served Shillong Times as its Editor from 1978 to 2008, when he resigned from the post for Patricia Mukhim to take over. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2005, for his contributions to Indian journalism. He is the founder of the Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust.

The Meghalayan age is the name given in 2018, by the International Commission on Stratigraphy, to the current age or latest geologic age – or uppermost stage of the Quaternary. It is also the upper, or latest, of three subdivisions of the Holocene epoch or series. This way of breaking down time is based only on geology; for example, it is unrelated to the three-age system of historical periods into which human development is sometimes divided.
Adelbert Nongrum is an Indian politician who represents North Shillong constituency as a member of the Voice Of The People Party. He had previously served as the president of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), a political party in Meghalaya, north-eastern India. Representing North Shillong constituency, he was the party's only representative in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly following the 2018 election.
Legislative Assembly elections were held in Meghalaya on 27 February 2023 to elect all 60 members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The votes were counted and the results were declared on 2 March 2023.
The SSA Women's Football League is the top division of women's football league in the Indian state of Meghalaya. The league is organised by the Shillong Sports Association (SSA), which is affiliated with the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA), the official football governing body of the state.
The Seng Khasi movement began in Mawkhar, Shillong on Nov 23rd 1899. The Seng Khasi is a socio cultural organisation formed to protect and preserve the Khasi culture and religion - Niam Khasi - from the forces of change brought by the British. It was founded by 16 young Khasi men under the guidance and mentorship of U Babu Jeebon Roy, an educationist, entrepreneur and advocate of indigenous beliefs and culture of the time. The sixteen founders were concerned about the loss of traditional Khasi culture and values due to the influence of British colonial rule and Christian missionaries.
The Meghalaya Games are a sports event held in Meghalaya, India which were started in 2001. After a long break, the event was revived in 2019, and is to be held annually from 2024 onwards.
