Major General William O'Leary QVRM TD DL VR is retired senior British Army Reserve officer who served as Deputy Commander Field Army.
After serving for seven years as a soldier, O'Leary was commissioned as a reserve officer in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers ('REME') in 1988. [1] He became commanding officer of 103 Battalion REME in 1999, Colonel Regional Forces in 2002 and Colonel Territorial Army Recruiting in 2005. [2] He went on to be Deputy Brigade Commander of 145 (South) Brigade in 2008, Assistant Commander Theatre Troops in 2011 and Assistant Deputy Military Secretary in 2015. [3] After that he became Deputy Commander Field Army in 2018. [4] O'Leary retired from the British Army on 12 March 2020. [5]
He was a Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers until May 2024, [6] and Honorary Colonel of the 103 Battalion REME Army Reserve until June 2024. [7]
After training as an engineering and sales specialist, O'Leary has worked in international business development with MGI Coutier, an automotive systems manufacturer, since the late 1990s. [2]
The Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers is the maintenance arm of the British Army that maintains the equipment that the Army uses. The corps is described as the "British Army's Royal Engineers Minus Education".
Field Marshal Richard Frederick Vincent, Baron Vincent of Coleshill, was a British Army officer. After serving with British Army of the Rhine he served with the Commonwealth Brigade in Malaysia during the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation. He commanded the 12th Light Air Defence Regiment in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, for which he was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, and later commanded the 19th Airportable Brigade. Although he never served as one of the individual service heads, he went on to be Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff in the late 1980s and then Chief of the Defence Staff in the aftermath of the Gulf War. He subsequently became Chair of the Military Committee of NATO in the mid-1990s.

Arthur Leslie Walter Newth was a British Army officer. Whilst attending Bristol Grammar School he became a corporal in the school's cadet corps. In 1914 Newth was commissioned into the 4th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment. He served with the battalion on the Western Front and received the Military Cross for gallantry in 1915. Newth was promoted to the acting rank of lieutenant-colonel in 1918 to command the 16th (Service) Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment. He was 21 when he was appointed and was probably the youngest battalion commander of the war.
