After the war ended,the Republican Party would be the dominant political party during Reconstruction,but once Reconstruction ended,the Democratic Party would dominate Tennessee Politics up until 2011 when the Republican Party would gain firm control of Tennessee State Government.

The current chairman of the Republican Party of Tennessee is Scott Golden. Johnson was the only one of the three legislators not to be expelled. Johnson was the Democratic Party nominee for the 2024 United States Senate election in Tennessee,losing in a landslide to incumbent Republican Marsha Blackburn.

Primary elections for the United States House of Representatives,governorship,Tennessee Senate,and Tennessee House of Representatives,as well as various judicial retention elections,including elections for all five Tennessee Supreme Court justices as well as general local elections,were held on August 4,2022. There were also four constitutional amendments to the Constitution of Tennessee on the November 8 ballot.
