William Hutchinson (born 4 August 1998 [2] ) is a Scottish professional boxer. He has challenged once for the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles in 2021. As an amateur, he won a gold medal at the 2016 Youth World Championships in the middleweight division.
Hutchinson is regarded as one of Scotland's most successful amateur boxers, [4] winning gold medals at the 2014 European Junior Championships and 2016 Youth World Championships—becoming the first Scottish boxer to win gold at an amateur World Championships. [5]
Under the tutelage of renowned Cuban trainer, Ismael Salas, and being guided by David Haye's RingStar Promotions [5] with Shelly Finkel as manager, [6] Hutchinson made his professional debut on 20 October 2017, scoring a first-round technical knockout (TKO) victory against Attila Nagy at the indigo at The O2 in London. He scored another TKO victory in December—defeating Cyrille Joly in the second round [8] —followed by a six-round points decision (PTS) victory against Eric Mokonzo in February 2018. [9] After his win over Mokonzo, Hutchinson switched trainers from Salas to Dominic Ingle. [6]
In the following May it was announced that Hutchinson had also switched promoters, signing with Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions. [10]
Hutchinson fought Joshua Buatsi for the WBO interim light-heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium on 21 September 2024. He was twice knocked to the canvas before losing the contest via split decision with two ringside judges scoring the fight for his opponent 117-108 and 115-110 respectively, while the third had it in his favour 113-112. Thomas Hearns is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1977 to 2006. Nicknamed the "Motor City Cobra", and more famously "The Hitman", Hearns's tall, slender build and oversized arms and shoulders allowed him to move up over fifty pounds in his career and become the first boxer in history to win world titles in five weight divisions: welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight.
Lamon Tajuan Brewster is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1996 to 2010. He held the World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight title from 2004 to 2006, and is best known for scoring an upset knockout victory over Wladimir Klitschko to win the vacant title. Brewster was ranked by BoxRec as the world's eighth best active heavyweight at the conclusion of 2004.
David Deron Haye is a British former professional boxer who competed between 2002 and 2018. He held multiple world championships in two weight classes, and was the first British boxer to reach the final of the World Amateur Boxing Championships, where he won a silver medal in 2001.
Zsolt Erdei is a Hungarian former professional boxer who competed from 2000 to 2014. He held world championships in two weight classes, including the WBO and lineal light-heavyweight titles from 2004 to 2009, and the WBC cruiserweight title from 2009 to 2010. Erdei is the first boxer from Hungary to win world titles in two weight divisions. As an amateur, he won a bronze medal in the middleweight division at the 2000 Olympics. Janibek Alimkhanuly is a Kazakh professional boxer and unified middleweight champion who has held the WBO title since 2022, and the IBF title since October 2023. As an amateur, he won gold medals at the 2013 World Championships, 2013 Asian Championships and 2014 Asian Games.
