Winter Moods is a Maltese band formed in the mid-1980s. During the past thirty years the band produced has five albums, and broke local records for attendance with two concerts, one on July 9, 2008, and the other one on July 30, 2010, the latest being attended by more than 10,000 fans, the largest number ever for a Maltese band.
Winter Moods formed in the mid-eighties[ when? ], consisting of Joeseph Rizzo (bass), Steve Caruana Smith (guitar) and Ivah Grech (vocals), practicising in a garage in Senglea on cold grey days to put together original songs. Thus the mood, thus the name of the band – Winter Moods. [1]
Etienne Robinich later joined on keyboards. Winter Moods released their first single ‘Sarah’[ when? ]. This song remains one of the band's most popular tracks to this day[ citation needed ]. ‘Sarah’ was included in the band's first CD album released in 1996. [2] Self-titled Winter Moods, the album was reminiscent of the members’ original influences.
Guitarist Melvin Caruana was the last member to join the band in 1997. Shortly after, in 2000, the band went on to launch their next CD album, ‘Morning Ale’ which produced hit songs ‘Jamaica’, ‘Ride’ and ‘Everyday Song’ – awarded the best song of all time by the Bay Music Awards in 2005. [3]
Winter Moods’ third CD album, ‘Butterfly House’ was released in April 2003. It featured the hit ‘Come To You’, and following on its predecessor's success, this album reached the top of the local charts within days of its release. Winter Moods’ fourth album ‘Ordinary Men’ combines the band's musical expertise with new styles. ‘Ordinary Men’ became the band's best selling album to date, and includes the band's most famous song ‘Marigold’.
The band's youngest member Karl Fenech joined in 2009 to play on drums.
Winter Moods launched a new album ‘Argento’ in 2010 and with a major concert which took place on The Granaries in Floriana on the 30th of July.
On 9 July 2008, the band performed in front of over 7500 people, the largest ever Maltese crowd to attend a paying concert. [4] [ better source needed ]
On 30 July 2010, Winter Moods managed to break their own record when they performed in front of the biggest ever crowd to attend a concert by a Maltese band. [5] Over 10,000 fans were in attendance for this record breaking event at The Granaries in Floriana.
Winter Moods also performed alongside Maroon 5, Enrique Iglesias and Akon in the Isle of MTV Malta Special. In 2007 the band supported the CiaO’Scia concert held in Malta featuring Claudio Baglioni, Gianni Morandi and Riccardo Cocciante. Baglioni sang Winter Moods’ ‘Marigold’ together with the band. [6]
Winter Moods performed at number of music festivals in Europe. In June 2000, the band performed at the Belfort Rock Festival in France, in September 2002 Winter Moods participated at the National Youth Rock Festival in Cyprus. In July 2003 Winter Moods were invited to perform at the Hard Rock Café in Rome. In 2004, following the success in German radio WDR2's competition – Europa XXL, where Winter Moods placed first amongst 10 bands from Europe, and was invited to perform at the Ring Fest held in Cologne, Germany.
Over the years Winter Moods garnered several awards. The band was voted as the Best Band at six editions of the Malta Music Awards (1997, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2010). In 2007 Winter Moods received the Best Song award for their single ‘Marigold’ and again in 2010 for their song 'My Neverland'. Ivan Grech twice won the award for Best Song Writer, in 2007 and 2010. [7] In 2008 the band was awarded the Legends Award – the first time such an award was handed out.
During the Bay Music Awards 2004 Winter Moods were awarded the Icon Award for their ongoing contribution to the Maltese music scene and for the success their singles have had on 89.7 Bay. [8] During the Bay Music Awards 2005 the band won best single of the year award for ‘Closer’ and the best single of all time award for ‘Everyday Song’. In 2007 the band garnered a further three BMAs this time for Best Band, Best Song (Marigold) and the Viewers’ Choice.

Floriana is the birthplace of many famous Maltese, amongst which the composer of the national anthem, 'L-Innu Malti', Robert Samut; former Bishop of Malta Dun Mauro Caruana, the poets Oliver Friggieri and Maria Grech Ganado, the writer and politician Herbert Ganado and Swedish Idol winner Kevin Borg.
Anna Tatangelo is an Italian pop singer and television personality. At the age of 15, she became the youngest person to win the Newcomer's Award at the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival singing contest. Her repertoire consists mainly of pop music with slight influences of neo-melodic in some of the songs composed for her by singer Gigi D'Alessio, but also in the fifth fusion albums Progetto B. She faced several social issues and current affairs, such as the empowerment of women, homophobia, anorexia and violence against women. Since 2007 she also wrote some songs. She participated in the Sanremo Music Festival six times in ten years, winning in 2002 with the song "Doppiamente fragile" and getting on the podium three more times: in 2005, when it was ranked third in the category "Women" with "Ragazza di periferia", in 2006, when it was ranked in third place overall and first in the category women with "Essere una donna" and in 2008, when, with the song "Il mio amico" has reached the second position. The last was in 2011 with the song "Bastardo".
Claudio Baglioni is an Italian pop singer-songwriter and musician. His career has been going on for over 50 years. Some songs from the 70s are part of Italian culture as Questo piccolo grande amore proclaimed Italian song of the century in 1985. In the 80s he released the two best-selling albums ever in Italy Strada facendo and La vita è adesso. And in the 90s he embraced World Music with the discs of the time trilogy, which began with Oltre (1990), continued with the incredible success of Io sono qui (1995) and ended with Viaggiatore sulla coda del tempo (1999). In 2006 he composed the anthem of the 2006 Winter Olympics.
Malta Music Awards (MMA) is an annual music awards ceremony held since October 20, 1995 and organised by Mega Music Malta in collaboration with Public Broadcasting Services and Magic Malta. Nicholas Caruana, also known as Nicky Bomba, is an Australian musician and singer-songwriter. He is the leader of the ARIA Award-winning Melbourne Ska Orchestra, frontman of his band, Bomba, as well as the former drummer and percussionist of John Butler Trio. He has performed in other acts and as a solo artist. His youngest sister, Danielle Caruana,, is married to his former bandmate, John Butler. His older brother, Michael Caruana, is a member of Bomba and of Mama Kin's backing band.

Richard Roman Grechko, better known as Ric Grech, was a British rock musician. He is best known for playing bass guitar and violin with the rock band Family as well as in the supergroups Blind Faith and Traffic. He also played with ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker.
Alessandra Amoroso is an Italian pop/soul singer, songwriter, producer and TV personality. She was the winner of the 2009 edition of the Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi. Since then, she published nine studio albums and two live albums, peaking the Italian Albums Chart eight times. Amoroso has also released successful singles and collaborations, including three number one hits, selling over 2.6 million records in Italy.

Joseph "Joe" Grech, is a Maltese singer, who was born in Cospicua, Malta. He is best known for introducing the Maltese language to the Eurovision Song Contest 1971, the first appearance from Malta on this pan-European television event.
Malta participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song "One Life" written by Paul Giordimaina and Fleur Balzan. The song was performed by Glen Vella. The Maltese entry for the 2011 contest in Düsseldorf, Germany was selected through the national final Malta Eurosong 2011, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The competition consisted of a semi-final round and a final, held on 11 and 12 February 2011, respectively, where "One Life" performed by Glen Vella eventually emerged as the winning entry after scoring the most points from a six-member jury and a public televote.

Stefan Galea is a Maltese singer. He is a two time finalist in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 and 2023 respectively with his entries 'Light Up My Life' and ‘Heartbreaker’. He was also contestant on the first season of The X Factor Malta.
Although Malta is a small island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea with a small population, it is nonetheless rich in its history and its culture. When in the 1950s, in nearby Italy the San Remo Festival, and later in Switzerland, the Eurovision Song Contest came into existence, Malta soon followed suit by organizing its own National Song Festival.
Danielle Caruana, known professionally as Mama Kin, is an Australian singer-songwriter. She has released two albums, Beat and Holler and The Magician's Daughter. She lives with her family in Fremantle.
The Animae Gospel Choir is a vocal ensemble based in Malta. It was founded in 2008 by Glen Vella and it has since grown into a 23 gospel singer-troupe.

Red Electric is the name of a Maltese rock band formed in 1995. The original line-up was made up of Matthew James Borg, Peter Borg (guitars), Jonas Delicata (guitars), Ivan Borg, and Raphael Tonna (drums). The current line-up consist of guitarist Peter Borg, pianist Aleandro Spiteri Monsigneur, bassist Ivan Borg, singer Joe Roscoe, and drummer Robert Spiteri.
