The Women's Arena Football League (WAFL) was an 8-on-8 full contact professional American football league based out of Houston, Texas. Founded in 2011, games were played in the spring and summer months in arenas around the United States. [1] The league is somewhat similar to the male-based Arena Football League and Indoor Football League, but with slightly different rules as well as no goalposts or rebound nets. It began play in 2012 with six teams. The founder and league president is Ivan Tompkins, Dwayne Ware Coach and former AFL player with the Houston Thunderbears and head coach of the charter Houston Lady Oilers. Their championship game is known as the Diva Bowl.
The WAFL was created as a more family-friendly alternative to the rival Legends Football League. As opposed to the lingerie (later bikini wear) worn by the players in the LFL, the WAFL's players wore more traditional women's athletic gear. [2] [3]
Following their inaugural season in 2013, the WAFL went dormant in preparations for a future return.

The Sydney Kings are an Australian men's professional basketball team competing in the National Basketball League (NBL). The team is based in Sydney, New South Wales. The Kings were formed from a merger between the West Sydney Westars and the Sydney Supersonics in October 1987. Andre Trevor Ware is an American sports analyst and commentator and a former American football player. He was the 1989 Heisman Trophy winner as a quarterback for the University of Houston. He was the first African American quarterback to receive this honor. In the 1990 NFL Draft, Ware was the first round selection of the Detroit Lions. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
Kevin Bernard Gilbride is an American football head coach. Gilbride was a coach for twenty years in the NFL, spending seven of them as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants, with whom he earned two Super Bowl rings. From 1997–1998, Gilbride was the head coach for the San Diego Chargers. Most recently, Gilbride served as the head coach for the New York Guardians of the XFL.
Paul Andrew Hasleby is a former Australian rules footballer. He played for the Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) and the East Fremantle and South Fremantle Football Clubs in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). He was the winner of the AFL Rising Star award in 2000, and coached South Fremantle from 2012 to 2014.
Dwayne Francis Lamb is a former Australian rules footballer who played with West Coast in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Subiaco in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). A utility player, he was often used as a ruck rover or in defence.
