Worlds Fair Nano is an American future festival whose mission is to let the general public experience the future. Worlds Fair Nano occurs in major cities around the United States. [1]

History

Founded in 2016 as part of an effort to bring a 6-month World's Fair back to the United States, [2] Worlds Fair Nano seeks to revive the spirit of the World's Fair by providing a place where the general public can experience and learn what the future holds. [3]

World's Fair Nano's mission of putting forth a non-BIE effort to bring the World's Fair back to the United States is considered rather important since there has not been a full-scale World's Fair in the United States in the past three decades. The most recent World's Fair in the United States was the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition that was held in 1984 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The most recent World's Fair in the entire continent of North America was Expo 86 in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

A variety of people and organizations have participated in Worlds Fair Nano. Past speakers include Airbnb's former Head of Hospitality Chip Conley, [4] socially advanced AI android BINA48, [5] and SETI's Senior Astronomer Seth Shostak. [6] Past exhibitors include mixed reality company Modal VR which was founded by Atari founder Nolan Bushnell [7] and haptic suit maker HardlightVR [8]

Past Events

The first Worlds Fair Nano took place in New York City on August 6 and 7, 2016. [9] The second fair took place in San Francisco on January 28 and 29, 2017. [10] The third occurred in New York City on September 16 and 17, 2017 [11] [12] The fourth WFN took place in San Francisco on March 10 and 11 at Pier 48. [13] As of summer 2018, the organizers behind Worlds Fair Nano launched a new event series focused on industry applications of artificial intelligence called Ai4.

He has been inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame and the Consumer Electronics Association Hall of Fame, received the BAFTA Fellowship and the Nations Restaurant News "Innovator of the Year" award, and was named one of Newsweek's "50 Men Who Changed America". He has started more than 20 companies and is one of the founding fathers of the video game industry. He is on the board of Anti-Aging Games. In 2012, he founded an educational software company called Brainrush, that is using video game technology in educational software.

Treasure Island is an artificial island in the San Francisco Bay, and a neighborhood in the City and County of San Francisco. Its World's Fair site is a California Historical Landmark. Buildings there have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the historical Naval Station Treasure Island, an auxiliary air facility, are designated in the Geographic Names Information System. Treasure Island is connected to Yerba Buena Island, another auxiliary island of San Francisco, by a causeway, creating access to Interstate 80.

On July 1, 2015, 32-year-old Kathryn "Kate" Steinle was shot and killed while walking with her father and a friend along Pier 14 in the Embarcadero district of San Francisco. She was hit in the back by a single bullet. The man who fired the gun, José Inez García Zárate, said he had found it moments before, wrapped in cloth beneath a bench on which he was sitting, and that when he picked it up the weapon went off. The shot ricocheted off the concrete deck of the pier and struck the victim, who was about 90 feet (27m) away. Steinle died two hours later in a hospital as a result of her injuries.

Sairento VR is a first-person shooter and free combat virtual reality video game developed by Singapore-based Mixed Realms and Swag Soft and released for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift platforms on February 6, 2018. The game was release for the PlayStation VR on July 5, 2019, and an Oculus Quest version titled Sairento Untethered was released on June 27, 2019.

The Laundry SF, or simply The Laundry, is a contemporary art gallery, event space and cafe, founded in 2015 and located in San Francisco’s Mission District. The Laundry curates exhibitions, which includes public programming around civics, fine arts, music, comedy, and live performances. The Laundry hosts a mix of works by emerging and established Bay Area and global artists.
