Xiha Life was a multilingual social networking website. It integrates Google's automatic translation software, Google Translate, which enables users to instantly translate comments and posts within the site itself. [1] [2] The user interface has been translated into 42 languages, and the system supports communication in 56 languages. [3] Xiha Life has 750,000 members worldwide, with no single country comprising more than 5% of its membership. [2] [4]

History

Xiha Life was founded on September 28, 2007, by Jani Penttinen, who serves as its CEO. [5] The name, "Xiha", is Mandarin for "happy" or "joyful". [6] In 2009, Xiha was named one of the Red Herring 100 Europe, an award given to promising European tech companies. [3] [7]

Board of Members

Its board includes Jaiku co-founder and former Google Project Manager Jyri Engeström, [5] Jan Achenius and Ville Miettinen. [8] Xiha Life is operated out of Sunnyvale, California, Switzerland, and Finland. [5] [8]

Baidu was incorporated in January 2000 by Robin Li and Eric Xu. The Baidu search engine is currently the sixth largest website in the Alexa Internet rankings. Baidu has origins in RankDex, an earlier search engine developed by Robin Li in 1996, before he founded Baidu in 2000.

Meebo Instant messaging client

Meebo was an instant messaging and social networking service provider. It was founded in September 2005 by Sandy Jen, Seth Sternberg, and Elaine Wherry, and was based in Mountain View, California. Initially the company offered a web-based instant messenger service, extending its offer in more general online chat and even social networking directions. In June 2012, Google acquired Meebo to merge the company's staff with the Google+ developers team.

Yandex N.V. is a multinational corporation primarily for Russian and Russian-language users, providing 70 Internet-related products and services, including transportation, search and information services, e-commerce, navigation, mobile applications, and online advertising.

Google Translate Multilingual neural machine translation service

Google Translate is a multilingual neural machine translation service developed by Google to translate text, documents and websites from one language into another. It offers a website interface, a mobile app for Android and iOS, and an API that helps developers build browser extensions and software applications. As of April 2022, Google Translate supports 109 languages at various levels, and as of April 2016, claimed over 500 million total users, with more than 100 billion words translated daily, after the company stated in May 2013 that it served over 200 million people daily.

hi5 is an American social networking service based in San Francisco, California. It is owned by The Meet Group.

Jaiku Company

Jaiku was a social networking, micro-blogging and lifestreaming service comparable to Twitter, founded a month before the latter. Jaiku was founded in February 2006 by Jyri Engeström and Petteri Koponen from Finland and launched in July of that year. It was purchased by Google on October 9, 2007.

Seesmic

Seesmic was a suite of freeware web, mobile, and desktop applications which allowed users to simultaneously manage user accounts for multiple social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter.

Qaiku was a micro-blogging and lifestreaming service comparable to Twitter and Jaiku. It allowed users to post short text or picture messages that other users can then comment. In comparison to Twitter and Jaiku, Qaiku had a multilingual focus, with all messages marked and searchable based on their language. It was shut down on October 15, 2012.

MindMeister

MindMeister is an online mind mapping application that allows its users to visualize, share and present their thoughts via the cloud. MindMeister was launched in 2007 by MeisterLabs GmbH, a software company founded by Michael Hollauf and Till Vollmer. After 10 years in the market, MindMeister has more than 7 million users who created more than a billion ideas to date.

Facebook is a social networking service originally launched as FaceMash on October 28, 2003, before changing its name to TheFacebook on February 4, 2004. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and college roommates and fellow Harvard University students, in particular Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. The website's membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and gradually most universities in the United States and Canada, corporations, and by September 2006, to everyone with a valid email address along with an age requirement of being 13 and older.

Populis is an international online publishing company producing content for 550 websites and blogs across eight European languages. Populis produces over 35,000 articles and videos in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. They receive 26.1 million monthly unique visitors across their websites and blogs. In 2010, they achieved revenues of 58 million euros. Populis specializes in writing content for different audiences and sectors including women's interests, personal finance, automobile, travel and fashion.

The startup scene in Finland has given birth to companies such as Angry Birds, Supercell, Wolt, and many others.

Rakuten Viki is an American video streaming website. It streams videos similar to other services, but also allows users to subtitle content available in 200 languages as well as provides original programming. Headquartered in San Mateo, California, it has offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea.

Nimbuzz

Nimbuzz was a proprietary cross-platform instant messaging and voice-over-IP provider and aggregator for smartphones, tablets and personal computers developed by MSM Global Holdings Limited, with the origins of its technology dating back to the early 2000s. As of March 2013, Nimbuzz had 150 million users in 200 countries. By April 2014, Nimbuzz was growing by more than 210,000 new registrations per day. In October 2014, now with over 200 million users, New Call acquired 70% of Nimbuzz, valuing the app at $250 million. Under CEO Vikas Saxena's leadership from March 2015, the Nimbuzz suite of applications enabled users to enjoy free calls, instant messaging, social-network games, file sharing, and social networking on their mobile device. In addition, Nimbuzz offered discounted calling rates to most countries in the world. The platform processed more than a billion call minutes and in excess of 100 billion messages a month.

23snaps Social network and photo sharing service

23snaps Ltd. is a free, private social network and photo sharing service for families that allows parents to save photos, videos, measurements and stories of their children to a digital journal and privately share those updates with other family members or close friends. 23snaps is available online and on mobile devices and launched 1 June 2012.
