YRU (pronounced "why are you") is a Swiss rock band formed in 2006 by Philipp Beyeler (drums), Michael Trittibach (guitar), and Christian Wenger (bass), who had all grown up and already played together, decided to continue and start up a proper band. Soon Lars Uebersax (Hammond organ) joined the guys but they still needed a singer and another guitarist. Before the year was over they found their voice in Stefan Caduff and Daniel Dummermuth a friend of Lars joined them to be the lead guitarist. That is when they really started to make an impact in the Bern Switzerland area.

History

In 2008 they released their first album Follow the Lights with seven tracks featuring "Song for Everyone" which was aired for over two years on the show Roboclip on SF zwei from the Swiss national channel Schweizer Fernsehen and also got showed on Swizz Mix on Viva. In 2009 they got voted to play at the famous Bierhübeli for the Waldbühne Contest of Gurtenfestival '09. Later that year YRU Daniel Dummermuth left the band but finished the recordings on the upcoming album and they found a new guitarist in Manuel Meier. In 2010 they released their first album Punkrock & Butterflies making its debut on iTunes. [1] After the release, Christian Wenger left the band and Rafael Costa, a long-time friend of the band, replaced him. In 2016 the second album still a capitalist was released with David Diston on Guitar. Rafael Costa and David Diston left the band and were replaced with Alper Akçöltekin and Davide Vincifora who are playing on the third album New Beginning which was released in Spring 2019.

Music style and influences

The band's sound is diverse and is a mix of 1970s sound elements such as the Hammond organ and modern approach of music. YRU cites its influences as The Doors, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Madrugada (band), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ben Harper, Pearl Jam, Manic Street Preachers, Cake, Incubus (band), NOFX, Zero7 and Why?.

Their video to "Song for Everyone" inspired by the Free Hugs Campaign [2] was aired on SF zwei on the show Roboclip from November 2008 until March 2011 on the Swiss national channel SF zwei. [3] It was introduced in October 2008 at the show Swizz Mix on Viva (TV station) YRU's debut radio broadcast was on Musiktipp on the national radio DRS 3 on 20 July 2009. And on other regional stations such as Neo1 which they also got interviewed.

The debut on-air radio interview was made by Berner Zeitung on 5 October 2009. [4] First video interview was also at Berner Zeitung on 18 August 2010 which they interviewed the singer and the drummer. [5]

Switzerland competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Era stupendo" by Paolo Meneguzzi. Meneguzzi was chosen by the Swiss national broadcaster, SRG SSR idée suisse, to sing for Switzerland in Belgrade, Serbia. For 2008, SRG SSR idée suisse had continued to internally select the song and singer to represent Switzerland at the 2008 contest, with an open call for songs being held by the broadcaster.

Stefanie Fabienne Heinzmann is a Swiss pop singer and television personality. She gained public interest in early 2008 when she won SSDSDSSWEMUGABRTLAD, a talent contest hosted in Stefan Raab's late-night-show TV total on the German ProSieben network. Following her win, Heinzmann released her debut single "My Man Is a Mean Man," which debuted straight atop the Swiss Singles Chart and became a top ten hit in Austria and Germany. Her pop soul-influenced album Masterplan was released in March 2008 and made it to the top ten in Austria and Germany, also reaching number one in Switzerland, where it was certified platinum by the IFPI for more than 30,000 copies sold.

Switzerland participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "The Highest Heights" written by Adrian Sieber, Thomas Rechberger and Florian Senn. The song was performed by the band Lovebugs, which was internally selected by the Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR idée suisse in January 2009 to represent the nation at the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. "The Highest Heights" was presented to the public as the Swiss song on 23 February 2009.

He is best known as the vocalist and sole consistent member of the Swiss industrial rock band The Young Gods, which he founded in 1985 with sampler player Cesare Pizzi and drummer Frank Bagnoud. Treichler was instrumental in the band's adoption of samplers as a main instrument. He released his solo debut album, Braindance in 2001.

Switzerland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song "In Love for a While" written by David Klein. The song was performed by Anna Rossinelli. The Swiss entry for the 2011 contest in Düsseldorf, Germany was selected through the national final Die grosse Entscheidungs Show 2011, organised by the Swiss German speaking broadcaster Schweizer Fernsehen (SF) and radio station DRS 3 in collaboration with the other broadcasters part of SRG SSR idée suisse. SF, DRS 3, the Swiss-French broadcaster Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) and the Swiss-Italian broadcaster Radiotelevisione svizzera (RSI) each conducted varying selections and a total of twelve entries were selected to advance to the televised national final—seven artists and songs from the SF selection, three from the DRS 3 selection, one from the TSR selection and one from the RSI selection. The twelve finalists performed during the national final on 11 December 2010 were public voting ultimately selected "In Love for a While" performed by Anna Rossinelli as the winner.

The Swiss entry for the 2012 contest in Baku, Azerbaijan was selected through the national final Die grosse Entscheidungs Show 2012, organised by the Swiss German speaking broadcaster Schweizer Fernsehen (SF) and radio station DRS 3 in collaboration with the other broadcasters part of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. SF, DRS 3, the Swiss-French broadcaster Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) and the Swiss-Italian broadcaster Radiotelevisione svizzera (RSI) each conducted varying selections and a total of fourteen entries were selected to advance to the televised national final—six artists and songs from the SF selection, three from the DRS 3 selection, three from the RTS selection and two from the RSI selection. Luca Hänni is a Swiss pop singer and television personality. He rose to fame in 2012 after winning the ninth season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar, the German version of the Idol franchise. He was the first non-German to do so and also the youngest ever winner of the show. Hänni's debut single, "Don't Think About Me", topped the singles charts in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Alles ohne Strom is a live album from the German punk-rock band Die Toten Hosen. It features recordings from two unplugged concerts on July 13 and July 14, 2019, which were titled "Mit Pauken und Trompeten" and were given at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. The album was released on October 25, 2019 by the label JKP. The songs 1000 gute Gründe, Ohne dich und Feiern im Regen had been released as downloads before as a teaser. On November 22, 2019, a video movie with 10 additional titles was released also.
