Main information

The company was created in 2003 by the Yamal administration and Russian Railways.

The main activity is the operation of the lines Korotchaevo – Novy UrengoyNadym and Korotchaevo–Novy UrengoyYamburg. [4] [2]

The branch Novy Urengoy–Pangody–Nadym was restored in the 1970s, part of the Transpolar mainline. [5]

Plans

The company develops the Obskaya – Polunochnoye railway construction project along the Eastern slope of the Ural mountains. Investment substantiation for construction of railway track prepares Saint-Petersburg company. Preliminary costs will be not less than 62 billion.

The company also expects to recover the Labytnangi – Nadym Transpolar mainline, which was abandoned in 1953.

Construction of the Obskaya – Polunochnoye railway and full recovery of Transpolar railway required the construction of a bridge across the Ob river. The agreement on construction of the combined rail and road bridge across the Ob was signed in December 2008 by the administration of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Federal Agency of railway transport of Russia. The 1,524 mm broad gauge Salekhard–Igarka Railway, is an incomplete railway in northern Siberia. The railway was a project of the Soviet Gulag system that took place from 1947 until Stalin's death in 1953. Construction was coordinated via two separate Gulag projects, the 501 Railway beginning on the River Ob and 503 Railway beginning on the River Yenisey, part of a grand design of Joseph Stalin to span a railway across northern Siberia to reach the Soviet Union's easternmost territories.

Vasily Tikhonovich Podshibyakin was a Soviet geologist and head of the trust “Yamalnefterazvedka”. He took part in discoveries of large and unique gas fields in the northern regions of Western Siberia, including Urengoy gas field.

The Bovanenkovo gas field is a natural gas field located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. It was discovered in 1972 and developed by Gazprom. It began production in 2012 and produces natural gas and condensates. The total proven reserves of the Bovanenkovo gas field are around 171.5 trillion cubic feet (4.9×1012 cubic metres), and production is stated to be around 11 billion cubic feet (311,000,000 cubic metres) per day in 2010. The Bovanenkovo gas field is part of the Yamal project.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Northern Latitudinal Railway</span> Railway under construction in Russia

The Northern Latitudinal Railway is a Russian railway line previously under construction in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. It is 707 kilometres long, along the Obskaya - Salekhard - Nadym - Novy Urengoy - Korotchaevo route, which should link the western and eastern parts of the autonomous region, linking the Northern Railway in the east with Sverdlovsk Oblast. The project is run jointly by the Government of Russia, the governments of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District, PJSC Gazprom, JSC Russian Railways, and Development Corporation JSC. The construction coordinator of the railway is the Federal Agency for Railway Transport (Roszheldor). Construction of the NLR is planned to be carried out from 2018 to 2022. The estimated volume of traffic at completion is 24 million tons. Initially, the highway was supposed to be laid by 2015, but due to the lack of a budget solution, the project completion dates were repeatedly postponed. In February 2017, the construction was announced to be completed in 2023. The project cost was estimated at 239 billion Rubles. In November 2022, it was announced that the government had suspended this project in favor of expanding rail eastward.

The Nadym River Bridge is a combined single-level bridge that was opened on September 11, 2015. It is located simultaneously on the Surgut – Salekhard highway and on the Salekhard – Nadym – Korotchaevo railway line. It is an element of the Northern Latitudinal Railway project, designed to link the Arctic region with the central areas of Russia and the Urals.
