The Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League (YDCL) is a Saturday League, founded in 1969. [1] The league administers cricket clubs that participate in its League, Cup and Trophy competitions [2] and is in formal association with the cricket boards of Yorkshire and Derbyshire, and the League Cricket Conference. [3]

Contents

The league consists of 3 divisions. Each division contains a maximum of 10 teams. [2] Clubs participating in the league are mainly from the Sheffield region of South Yorkshire, and the rest are clubs from North East Derbyshire and the Peak District.[ citation needed ]

Since the formation of the league in 1969, the YDCL has witnessed Parkhead Cricket Club build an almost unassailable tally of 12 league championship titles (not including the shared championship title with Stainborough Cricket Club in 1971). [4] Parkhead won their first YDCL championship in 1970, one year after the formation of the league, and maintained a high standard throughout the league's history, culminating with their most recent win in the season of 2019. Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral. Founded in 1870, the club held first-class status from its first match in 1871 until 1887. Because of poor performances and lack of fixtures in some seasons, Derbyshire then lost its status for seven seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895. Derbyshire is also classified as a List A team since the beginning of limited overs cricket in 1963; and classified as a senior Twenty20 team since 2003. In recent years the club has enjoyed record attendances with over 24,000 people watching their home Twenty20 fixtures in 2017 – a record for a single campaign. The Second XI Championship is a season-long cricket competition in England that is competed for by the reserve teams of those county cricket clubs that have first-class status. The competition started in 1959 and has been contested annually ever since.

The Premier Division of the Derbyshire County Cricket League is the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in Derbyshire, England, and is a designated ECB Premier League. The Premier League was founded in 2000 as a separate league from the Derbyshire County Cricket League, and at that time was called the Derbyshire Premier Cricket League. The two leagues amalgamated before the 2016 season, and the Derbyshire Premier Cricket League became the Premier Division of the Derbyshire County Cricket League. While most of the league's member clubs are from Derbyshire, there are also clubs from the Burton upon Trent area of Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

The Middlesex County Cricket League (MCCL) is the only adult Saturday league for recreational club cricket in the historic county of Middlesex, England. In practical terms, this means it encompasses teams from North and West London. The league was founded in 1972, and since 1999 the top division of the Middlesex County Cricket League has been a designated ECB Premier League.

The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League, commonly abbreviated to NYSD, is the top-level competition for recreational club cricket in the north of Yorkshire and south of Durham, England. The league was founded as long ago as 1892, the first competition was held in the following year.

The Grantham & Melton Cricket Association (GMCA) is a Sunday League that administer's cricket clubs that participate in its League, Cup and trophy competitions. The league headquarters is based in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

The Mansfield and District Cricket League (MDCL) is a Sunday League, founded in 1947. The league in 2022 listed 59 teams from 53 clubs split into 6 Divisions, with regionalisation of the divisions organised into the bottom 4 sections. The League headquarters is based in Rotherham.

The Scarborough Beckett Cricket League, founded in 1958, is a Saturday League that administer's cricket clubs that participate in its League, Cup and Trophy competitions. The league headquarters is based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
