"You Held the World in Your Arms" is a song by Scottish rock band Idlewild, from their 2002 album The Remote Part . It was the first single from the album in June 2002 and charted at #9 in the UK Singles Chart (see 2002 in British music). To date "You Held the World in Your Arms" is Idlewild's highest placed single release in the UK charts and their only single to make the Top 10.
The song was included in the track list for the 2003 edition of the highly successful FIFA video game series.
Idlewild's vocalist Roddy Woomble has performed an acoustic version while touring with his folk band: this arrangement featured on Woomble's album Live at Kings Place . [1]
The Remote Part is the third album by Scottish rock band Idlewild, released on 15 July 2002. It received broadly positive reviews and is Idlewild's most commercially successful album to date, entering the UK album chart at Number 3 and selling 100,000 copies within a month. It is currently certified as Gold within the U.K. Vocalist Roddy Woomble notes that the band felt like "a collective of songwriters" during the writing process. Woomble credits guitarist Rod Jones with influencing the album's musical direction, stating that Jones "really started to take steps forward in terms of his guitar playing, and also his harmonies. I think he pulled the record in a more poppy way, as that’s the sort of musician he is – he loves bands like Teenage Fanclub and Yes and ELO and The Police."
100 Broken Windows is the second full-length studio album by Scottish band Idlewild, released on 9 May 2000. The album showcased a significantly mellower, less distorted sound for Idlewild, with the songs being of a slower tempo than those on the punk influenced Hope Is Important. In 2008, vocalist Roddy Woomble stated that the album "seems to be the record many people make a connection with."

The song gave the band another top-twenty hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at number 19, but fell shy of the mark in Australia at number 23. It was also a top-five hit in Canada and New Zealand, reaching numbers four and five respectively. In March 1994, a remixed version of "Distant Sun" was released in the United States, reaching number 26 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. The regular mix was not released as a single in the US and was only available on the album.

The album was released following Idlewild's split from Parlophone/EMI, and, as a result, only features two songs from 2007's Make Another World, which was released through Sequel Records.
