Release

"Young & Sick" was first announced alongside the premiere of the album's first single "Glass" on February 18, 2014. [2] On March 25, the album's second single "Heartache Fetish" was released. [3] [4] The accompanying music video was released May 21. [5]

Young & Sick was officially released April 8, 2014 via Harvest Records. The album was first available as an exclusive stream on Hype Machine. [6]

Critical reception

Young & Sick received universal acclaim from music critics and blogs. [7] [6] [8] AllMusic summarized, stating the album "delivered with so much style and graceful soul that it leaps ahead of the pack to become something of a minor classic of the form." [9]

Pitchfork Media stated "Young & Sick is a remarkably polished debut, with each song boasting careful, painstaking arrangements and adept uses of space. It's charming, undeniable music that bops its way out onto the dance floor with relaxed charm, and it shimmers with the seductive murmur of a lounge staple." [1] Earmilk added the album was "the stuff of music lovers' dreams." [4]

The solo project is the brainchild of Dutch artist Nick van Hofwegen, described as a "double threat" in art and music by the Wall Street Journal, who is responsible for the project's musical composition, production, and performance, as well as all artwork. Young & Sick is currently releasing music with Neon Gold Records and B3Sci Records and was previously signed to Harvest Records. He has created artwork for a variety of well known entertainers including Foster the People, The Velvet Teen, Maroon 5, Robin Thicke, Mikky Ekko, T. Mills, Andy Dick, Jerry Stiller, L.A. Salami and others. In 2014, Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1 called Young & Sick the "Next Hype" and the project was named Stereogum's "Band to Watch."
