The Young Achievers Awards (YAA) is a national competition held annually in Uganda which selects and promotes the best practice and excellence in youth creativity. [2] [3]

Contents

By demonstrating a young person's potential to create an outstanding nation built on entrepreneurship, YAA aims at recognizing Uganda's leaders of tomorrow today. [4] [5] It provides an opportunity for people to work together to address national developmental challenges in ICT, the Arts, Health, Education, Gender and access to better lives. [6] [7] [8]

History

Founded in 2009 by Awel Uwihanganye and Ivan Serwano Kyambadde, the Award was created as a platform to showcase young people creating economic opportunity, attaining financial independence and improve their leadership abilities . [9]

Forum for Democratic Change Political party in Uganda

The Forum for Democratic Change, founded on 16 December 2004, is the main opposition party in Uganda. The FDC was founded as an umbrella body called Reform Agenda, mostly for disenchanted former members and followers of President Yoweri Museveni's National Resistance Movement (NRM). Party president Kizza Besigye, formerly a close ally of Museveni, was a presidential candidate in 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 presidential elections. In November 2012, Mugisha Muntu was elected as President of the FDC until November 2017 when he was defeated by Patrick Oboi Amuriat the current party President until 2022.

Tony Odur is a Ugandan football player who currently plays for Express FC in Uganda. Odur has also made appearances for the Uganda national football team. In March 2010 Odur scored a memorable hat trick against Burundi in CHAN qualifiers.

Jennifer Musisi Ugandan lawyer, administrator and academic

Jennifer Semakula Musisi is a Ugandan lawyer and public administrator. She is the first City Leader in Residence at Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative at the Ash Center of the Harvard Kennedy School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. She was appointed to this position in January 2019.

Usama Mukwaya Ugandan actor, filmmaker

Usama "Osam" Nyanzi Mukwaya is a Ugandan screenwriter,film director, producer, actor and former television host. He launched his filmmaking career with the short film Hello that won overall best film in the 2010 MNFPAC Students Awards.

Halima Namakula is a Ugandan musician, actress, entrepreneur and humanitarian who in 2009 was nominated to represent Uganda in the Mrs. World beauty pageant.

Benjamin Ochan is a Ugandan professional is a Ugandan footballer who plays for A.F.C. Leopards in the Kenyan Premier League and Uganda national football team as a goalkeeper.

GNL Zamba

GNL Zamba, born Ernest Nsimbi, is a popular and influential hip hop artist in Uganda, credited with bringing rap and Lugaflow style of music to mainstream radio and other media in Uganda.

Bake Robert Tumuhaise is a Ugandan author and motivational speaker. He is the author of an inspirational novel, Tears of My Mother, and a motivational book, Tapping God’s Blessings:Keys to Open Doors of Success in Your Life. He is the Managing Director of World Of Inspiration; Founder of the Authors’ Forum in Uganda. He is the author of five published inspirational books, he is an inspirational Columnist with Saturday Vision (Uganda) and Sunday Times (Rwanda) and a Director on the Board of Amakula International Film Festival. He is a graduate Teacher from Makerere University.

Cinderella Sanyu is a Ugandan musician. She was one of the original members of Blu*3 which also consisted of Lilian Mbabazi and Jackie Chandiru. She has performed with P-Square, Wahu, Beenie Man, Ne-Yo, Tiwa savage, Bobi Wine, Shaggy, Chameleon, Bebe Cool, Davido, Mr. G and Radio & Weasel.

Masaba "Mas" Yunus is a Ugandan serial entrepreneur and investor who owns multiple businesses. Born 30 November 1990, Yunus is the founder and proprietor of a growing African business conglomerate named Mas Group of Companies with interests in Transport & Logistics, information technology, Business consultancy, Branding & Advertising.

Milege

Milege Afrojazz Band, commonly known as Milege, is a world music band from Uganda, made up of young talented musicians from Uganda whose enthusiasm is derived from the diverse cultural music traditions of the different tribes of Uganda into which they fuse contemporary elements to express the likeness of Uganda's people in a more current context. As of 2015 Milege's members are; guitarist Manana F. Birabi, vocalist Joanita Katushabe, lead vocalist Gloria Akugizibwe, bassist Paul Owembabazi and violinist Alison Nadunga as a seasoned member.

Giovanni Kremer Kiyingi is a Ugandan folk singer-songwriter and world music artist. He is known for his skills as a multi-instrumentalist who plays the local Ugandan fiddle (endingidi), akogo, adungu, guitar, harmonica, flute, djembe, calabash, congas, drums, and maracas, among others. He was one of the Ugandan artists chosen to welcome Pope Francis to Uganda at Kololo on 27 November 2015.

Humphrey Nabimanya is a television presenter, founder and team leader at Reach A Hand, Uganda.

Reach A Hand, Uganda (RAHU) is a youth-led nonprofit organization based in Uganda. It advocates for Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) of young people between the ages of 12–24 years including HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. RAHU works with the goal of increasing access to information and services relating to SRHR for young people so as to empower them live healthy, focused and productive lives.

Daniel Isiagi Opolot is a Ugandan footballer who plays for Jomo Cosmos FC in South Africa and the Uganda national team as a striker.

Mariam Luyombo is a Ugandan educational entrepreneur and the director of Taibah Schools in Uganda

Biddemu Bazil Mwotta Ugandan politician and entrepreneur

Biddemu Bazil Mwotta is a Ugandan Agriculture Enthusiast, Social entrepreneur, politician, and teacher. Bazil is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AgroDuuka Uganda Limited. He was the 82nd Guild president of Makerere University. The Guild Representative Council is the topmost student leadership body at Makerere University. On the 15th of January, 2019, the Chancellor of Makerere University bestowed upon Mwotta a Bachelor of Arts with Education degree, having completed his studies at the academic institution.
