History

Jim Barrett and Ben Yarbrough started writing music together when they were teenagers and went on to form their first band in high school.

They continued to play music together, along with other friends throughout high school, and it was during this time that Barrett self recorded an EP in the spring of 2009 for a school project (which he failed) under the name "Young Buffalo" (a nickname he had for Ben in school). The recordings ended up being well received locally, and the duo brought the "Young Buffalo" project to life. [1]

In July 2011, Young Buffalo released the "Young Von Prettylips EP" on Cantora Records, [2] an American label noted for signing the then-unknown psychedelic rock band MGMT for their second EP, Time to Pretend EP. Young Buffalo were listed as "new band of the day" by the UK newspaper The Guardian. [3] Indie Rock Cafe included the "Young Von Prettylips EP" in their 6 "Best New Releases" of July. [4] They opened for the popular English band Arctic Monkeys several times, including a sold-out show in Austin, TX. [5]

In 2012, Young Buffalo signed with Seattle label Votiv and released their self-titled EP, the "Young Buffalo EP", [6] which has been described as "vintage swagger that contributes to the inherent uniqueness of this Afrobeat-tinged indie rock release." [7] The EP was released on iTunes in August. [8] Young Buffalo toured around the US and the UK, including playing South by Southwest, where NPR featured the "Young Von Prettylips EP" single "Catapilah" in their "The Austin 100" radio mix. [9] In November 2012, Paste Magazine premiered the video for "Upstairs" from the "Young Buffalo EP" and described the song as "a step toward maturity and a more cohesive sound" for the band. [10] AOL music website Spinner posted "Upstairs" as "Video of the Day" in December. [11] Young Buffalo continued to tour across the US in support of their EP release with Admiral Fallow and label mates White Arrows. [12]

In February 2013, the "Young Buffalo EP" was listed as the #1 EP in the CMJ Radio 200. [13] The group also stated in an interview in March 2013 that they hoped to release their first full-length album in early 2014. [14]

Young Empires is a Canadian rock band that formed in Toronto in October, 2009. Initially, the group was composed of vocalist and keyboardist Matthew Vlahovich, bass guitarist Jacob Palahnuk, and guitarist Robert Aaron Ellingson. After a stint with Fritz Helder and the Phantoms, drummer Taylor Hill joined the line-up in late 2011. In February 2013, the band separated from Robert Aaron Ellingson, citing philosophical differences, and wrote and recorded the forthcoming debut album as a three piece.

Hundred Waters

Hundred Waters is an American band formed in Gainesville, Florida in October 2011, composed of Nicole Miglis, Trayer Tryon and Zach Tetreault. The group came to prominence in 2012 with the release of their first self-titled album and an unexpected partnership with Skrillex's predominantly electronic Owsla record label. Hundred Waters wrote and produced most of their second album, The Moon Rang Like a Bell, while on tour with alt-J, The xx, Julia Holter and others; it was released on May 27, 2014.

Love X Stereo is an electro duo from Seoul, Korea. Consisting lead vocalist and synthesizer player Annie Ko and guitarist and producer Toby Hwang, the duo debuted in 2011 by releasing an EP album called Buzzin'.

Sunflower Bean American rock band

Sunflower Bean is an American rock band from Glen Head, New York and Brooklyn founded in 2013. The band consists of Julia Cumming, Nick Kivlen, and Olive Faber (drums). The group has released two albums, Human Ceremony in February 2016 and Twentytwo in Blue in March 2018.
