Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn is a mixed, community comprehensive school in Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It has around 520 pupils, catering for all abilities across an age range of 11 to 19 years. [1]
The school was established in 1994 following the re-organisation of secondary education provision in the area, although parts of the school were built in 1945. [2]
Due to its close proximity to the county border, pupils from both Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion attend a school.
As of 2017, 30% of pupils speak Welsh at home. However, school data indicates that 23% of pupils are considered to be fluent in Welsh. Approximately 47% of pupils completed their primary education through the medium of Welsh. [3]
Newcastle Emlyn is a town on the River Teifi, straddling the counties of Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire in West Wales. It is also a community entirely within Carmarthenshire, bordered by those of Llangeler and Cenarth, also in Carmarthenshire, and by Llandyfriog in Ceredigion. Adpar is the part of town on the Ceredigion side of the River Teifi. It was formerly called Trefhedyn and was an ancient Welsh borough in its own right. The area including Adpar had a population of 1,883 according to the 2011 census.

Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw is a Welsh-medium all age school located in Trevethin, Pontypool in Torfaen, Wales and named for Saint Gwynllyw. The school had 926 pupils on roll in 2017. The school changed its name from ‘Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw’ to ‘Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw’ in 2022 to incorporate going from a High School to an all age school, the first in South East Wales.

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe is a Welsh-language comprehensive school based in Penlan, Swansea, southwest Wales. It opened in 2003 to complement Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr and to provide additional capacity following the increased demand for Welsh-medium education in the area. Upon its opening, it held only its own fresh intake, taking none of Gwyr's existing pupils. As a result, the school only reached its full complement of years 7-11 with its fifth intake of September 2007. As of September 2012 it has approximately 900 pupils on roll.
