Yury Garrievich Abramovich (September 5, 1935 in Kharkiv, Ukrainian SSR – February 28, 2017 in Zhukovsky, Moscow Oblast, Russia) was a test pilot of the Moscow Aviation Industrial Association (MAIA).

Abramovich graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute in 1959. From 1965 to 1995 Abramovich worked as a test pilot at aviation enterprise "Znamya Truda" (now named MAIA) in Lukhovitsy town in Moscow Oblast. He tested several supersonic fighter aircraft Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21, Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23, Mikoyan MiG-29 and their modifications, and participated in testing the Ilyushin Il-103 light multipurpose aircraft.
Moscow Aviation Institute founded in 1930 is one of several major engineering higher education establishments in Moscow. Since its inception MAI has been spearheading advances in aerospace technology both within Russia and worldwide. The university laid emphasis on laboratory instruction in applied science and engineering, specific to demands of the aerospace industry. During World War II part of the university was evacuated to Almaty Kazakhstan, the university, staff and students continued to work on research and wartime production throughout the war. During the Post-War period, the university expanded and assimilated new technologies during the Jet age. Research conducted in the university contributed to heralding the space age.

The Order of the Red Banner of Labour was an order of the Soviet Union established to honour great deeds and services to the Soviet state and society in the fields of production, science, culture, literature, the arts, education, health, social and other spheres of labour activities. It is the labour counterpart of the military Order of the Red Banner. A few institutions and factories, being the pride of Soviet Union, also received the order. The all-Union equivalent was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet on September 7, 1928 and approved by another decree on September 15, 1928. The Order's statute and regulations were modified by multiple successive decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, on May 7, 1936, on June 19, 1943, on March 28, 1980, and on July 18, 1980.

The Medal "Veteran of Labour" was a civilian labour award of the Soviet Union established on January 18, 1974 by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR to honour workers for many years of hard work in the national economy, sciences, culture, education, healthcare, government agencies and public organizations. Although it only had a relatively short eighteen years of existence, it was awarded nearly forty million times. Its regulations were detailed and approved by decree number 5999-VIII of May 20, 1974. Its statute was amended by multiple successive decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, first on June 8, 1977, then on August 12, 1983 and lastly on December 28, 1987. The medal ceased to be awarded following the December 1991 dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Artem (Artyom) Ivanovich Mikoyan was a Soviet Armenian aircraft designer. In partnership with Mikhail Gurevich he designed many of the famous MiG military aircraft.

Mikhail Iosifovich Gurevich was a Soviet Jewish aircraft designer, a partner who co-founded the famous MiG military aviation bureau. MiG is an abbreviation of their surnames. The bureau now simply known as Mikoyan, is famous for its fighter aircraft, rapid interceptors and multi-role combat aircraft which were staples of the Soviet Air Forces throughout the Cold War. The main focus in designing the aircraft were on high speed, fast ascent, and high flight altitude. The bureau designed 170 projects of which 94 were made in series. In total 45,000 aircraft of "MiG" brand have been manufactured domestically, of which 11,000 aircraft were exported. Over 14,000 "MiG" fighters have been produced under licence abroad. The last plane which Gurevich personally worked on before his retirement was the MiG-25.
