Vooruit is a Flemish social democratic political party in Belgium. It was known as the (Flemish) Socialist Party until 21 March 2021,when its current name was adopted.

He headed the CD&V fraction in the Chamber of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Since 1995,he has been the mayor of Aalter in East Flanders.

Steven Vanackere is a Belgian politician from Flanders and member of the Christian Democratic and Flemish party (CD&V). He held the portfolios of Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Institutional Reform in the Leterme II government. He is the son of Leo Vanackere,who,following a political career as a Member of the Chamber of Representatives and the Senate of Belgium,became the Provincial Governor of West Flanders in 1979. His grandfather,Remi Wallays,had also been a senator and had been a former Mayor of Wevelgem.

The Jewish Museum of Belgium shooting was an antisemitic Islamist terrorist attack which took place in Brussels,Belgium,on 24 May 2014 when a gunman opened fire at the museum,killing four people. Three of them,an Israeli couple on holiday and a French woman,died at the scene. The fourth victim,a Belgian employee of the museum,later died of his injuries in hospital. Six days after the attack,on 30 May 2014,Mehdi Nemmouche,a 29-year-old French national of Algerian origin,was arrested during a routine drugs check in Marseille,France,when he was found to be carrying weapons identical to those used in the shooting. A second suspect,Nacer Bendrer,was later identified and arrested.
The Carnival of Aalst is an annual three-day event in Aalst,East Flanders,Belgium. The carnival is celebrated in the days preceding Ash Wednesday. It is mainly a street happening;the celebrants dance on the town squares and visit caféafter café.
