ZADZADZ was an online video database of current television commercials, featuring everything from video games to hair care products grouped into consumer-desired categories. After the site's successful testing phase in late 2007, ZADZADZ officially launched on January 17, 2008. [1]

Overview

The ZADZADZ website comprises the largest collection of active television commercials online. The ads are grouped into various categories [2] and are automatically streamed through the site's central player, depending on what playlist is selected by the user. Additional functionality also exists, including the ability to sort the ads, e-mail or embed ads, and search for ads. [3]

ZADZADZ is a "Window Shopping 2.0" experience for the user because of its grouping of television commercials into relevant product and psychographic "channels". Browsing between individual channels allows the user to quickly shop and compare products and services via the ads themselves. [4]

Essentially a free site, all of the basic video database content is available without registration and without providing any personal information. Any person with an e-mail address and a web browser that accepts cookies can set up an account with ZADZADZ that allows them to vote on various channels' ads and engage in many other site activities.

In addition to a consumer shopping tool, ZADZADZ is an advertising and entertainment industry resource, tracking and showcasing current brand/market trends, including celebrity endorsements, high-profile product introductions, and creative execution feedback and refinement. [5]

History

Reason for Being

Founded by advertising executives Russell Griffin and Chandos Erwin, ZADZADZ was created, in many ways, as a response to the DVRs and TiVos of the world. As people began to skip ads while watching their favorite TV shows, technology was empowering the consumer to watch their content without interruption. But, (perhaps unbeknownst to viewer) at the same time, technology was depriving consumers of a vital source of product information and cultural relevance. With the introduction of ZADZADZ the equation was once again balanced: With DVRs consumers could skip ads in order to get to their desired content (their TV shows), and with ZADZADZ consumers could choose which ads to watch when the ads themselves are the desired content (when preparing to make a purchase or when simply staying up with cultural trends). Super Bowl

On February 3, 2008 ZADZADZ launched a feature that enabled users to watch and rate the Super Bowl XLII ads as well as a media tool for outlets to report the ongoing results at any moment in time. [4] ZADZADZ was quickly utilized as a resource by other web sites [6] and users rated the ads in varying categories. [5] [7]

A digital video recorder (DVR) is an electronic device that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card, SSD or other local or networked mass storage device. The term includes set-top boxes with direct to disk recording, portable media players and TV gateways with recording capability, and digital camcorders. Personal computers are often connected to video capture devices and used as DVRs; in such cases the application software used to record video is an integral part of the DVR. Many DVRs are classified as consumer electronic devices; such devices may alternatively be referred to as personal video recorders (PVRs), particularly in Canada. PlayOn is a streaming media brand and software suite that enables users to view and record videos from numerous online content providers. The suite consists of two main products: PlayOn Cloud and PlayOn Desktop. PlayOn Cloud is an online service for recording digital video streams, accessible via native iOS or Android mobile device applications. PlayOn Desktop is Windows-based software that acts as a streaming dashboard and hub on the PC. The available streaming websites are organized as channels in both products. Users browse through or search the video content found in those channels in order to record the videos for later viewing. PlayOn Desktop allows watching the videos real-time on the PC, or casting the videos to a TV via a streaming device or gaming console.

Advertisers strategically unveil major marketing campaigns in conjunction with televised mega-events and create memorable advertising content with high entertainment value. Some mega-event advertising, such as during the Super Bowl, even attracts a subset of viewers interested primarily in the advertising content. Facebook Watch is a video on demand service operated by American company Meta Platforms. The company announced the service in August 2017 and was availability to all U.S. users that month. Facebook Watch's original video content is produced for the company by others, who earn 55% of advertising revenue.

An annoyance factor, in advertising and brand management, is a variable used to measure consumers' perception level of annoyance in an ad, then analyzed to help evaluate the ad's effectiveness. The variable can be observed or inferred and is a type that might be used in factor analyses. An annoyance effect is a reference to the impact or result of an annoying stimulus, which can be a strategic aspect of an advertisement intended to help a message stick in the minds of consumers. References to annoyance effects have been referred to as annoyancedynamics. While the words "factor" and "effect," as used in the behavioral sciences, have different meanings, in casual vernacular, they have been used interchangeably as synonymous. A more general or umbrella term would simply be advertising annoyance.
