Zachary James "Zach" Brown (born September 18,1990) [1] is an American politician who served as a member of the Montana House of Representatives from 2015 to 2021. [2] [3] [4] He was elected to a six-year term as a Gallatin County Commissioner in 2020. [5]
Brown was born in Bozeman,Montana,on September 18,1990. After graduating from Bozeman High School as a class valedictorian,he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental studies from University of Montana. [6] [7] As an undergraduate,he was awarded two Udall Scholarships (2011 &2012) and a Harry S. Truman Scholarship in 2012. After graduating,he moved to Washington,D.C.,for a year,working as a Madeleine Albright Fellow,which included stints at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of International Migration.
In 2019,Brown was awarded the President Royce Engstrom Endowed Prize in University Citizenship by the University of Montana.
Brown was elected to the Montana House of Representatives in November 2014 and assumed office in January 2015. In the 2017 legislative session,Brown was the vice chair of the House Natural Resources Committee. In the 2019–2020 session,he was vice chair of the House Taxation Committee. [8] In 2019-20,he served as Chair of the Water Policy Interim Committee.
Brown did not seek re-election to the Montana House in 2020,instead running for a seat on the Gallatin County Commission. He was elected in November 2020. [9] [10]
Brown worked in the nonprofit sector prior to his election to the Gallatin County Commission. He has worked for One Montana,the Human Resource Development Council of Southwest Montana,and the Montana Nonprofit Association. He is also a Montana Officials Association certified basketball official.
He is married to Alice Buckley,who succeeded him in the Montana House. [11]

The East Gallatin River flows 42 miles (68 km) in a northwesterly direction through the Gallatin valley,Gallatin County,Montana. Rising from the confluence of Rocky Creek and several other small streams,the East Gallatin begins about one mile (1.6 km) east of downtown Bozeman,Montana. The river joins the main stem of the Gallatin River 2.3 miles (3.7 km) north of Manhattan,Montana. Franke Wilmer is an academic and a politician. She was a Democratic member of the Montana House of Representatives,representing Districts 63 and 64 from 2007 to 2015. Nelson Story Sr. was a pioneer Montana entrepreneur,cattle rancher,miner and vigilante,who was a notable resident of Bozeman,Montana. He was best known for his 1866 cattle drive from Texas with approximately 1000 head of Texas Longhorns to Montana along the Bozeman Trail—the first major cattle drive from Texas into Montana. His business ventures in Bozeman were so successful that he became the town's first millionaire. In 1893,he played a prominent role in the establishment of the Agricultural College of the State of Montana by donating land and facilities. He built the first Story Mansion on Main Street in Bozeman in 1880 and later built today's Story Mansion at the corner of Willson and College for his son,T. Byron Story in 1910. In his later years,he became a prominent real estate developer in Los Angeles,California.
