Zaigham Imam (born 10 December 1982) is an Indian film director, writer, and producer, known for Nakkash , Dozakh in Search of Heaven , and Alif , [2] He has written two books, Main Mohabbat and Dozakh, both published by Rajkamal Prakashan. [3] He won the Best Director award for Nakkash at the India International Film Festival of Boston (IIFFB) 2019. [4]
Imam spent nearly ten years as a media professional and worked for Hindi newspapers such Amar Ujala and the news channels Aaj Tak. He then started writing dialogues, stories and screenplays, and was a researcher on Indian TV dramas. He entered Bollywood by adapting his own novel Dozakh: in Search of Heaven for the screen. [5]
In Dozakh: In Search Of Heaven, Imam took on the roles of writer, director and producer. The release in March 2015 was well-received and won awards and nominations in various international film festivals. Amitabh Bachchan complimented him by saying "'Dozakh' is a sensitive film, made by sensitive people." [6]
Imam's second feature film, Alif, his second feature film, was released on February 3, 2017. The trailer was launched by former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. [7] The film was narrated by Jaya Bachchan and got acclaimed as 'A Pearl in the sea of Bollywood'. Alif was well-received critics as well as in the general audience, and the television rights to Alif were bought. It also premiered at Australia's Indian International Film Festival. [8]
Imam'ss third film, Nakkash, was made in 2019, completing the trilogy of stories set around the holy city of Varanasi, India. The I & B Ministry selected Nakkash to represent the spirit of communal harmony in India and sponsored its launch in the "India Pavilion" at Cannes, where it was showcased during the 71st Cannes Film Festival 2018. [9] Nakkash was released on 31 May 2019 in India.

Paheli (transl. Riddle) is an Indian Hindi fantasy film released in India on 24 June 2005. It is a remake of the 1973 Hindi movie Duvidha by Mani Kaul based on the short story written by Vijayadan Detha in Rajasthani and was partially inspired by the 1997 Kannada movie Nagamandala based on the play of same name by Girish Karnad. It was directed by Amol Palekar and produced by Juhi Chawla, Aziz Mirza, Sanjiv Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan, who also plays the male lead. It tells the story of a wife whose husband goes on a business trip as is the practice of business communities, and visited by a jinn, disguised as her husband, who is in love with her and takes her husband's place. Waqt: The Race Against Time (transl. Time) is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film that was directed and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. Dozakh in Search of Heaven is an Indian Hindi-Urdu film written and directed by Zaigham Imam, which premiered at the Kolkata International Film Festival on 12 November 2013. It was jointly produced by Imam and Pawan Tiwari who also acts. It is an adaptation of a book by the same name.
Pink is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language social thriller film directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and written by Shoojit Sircar, Ritesh Shah and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. The film is produced by Rising Sun Films on a total budget of ₹20–30 crore , with screenplay by Shah and music composition by Shantanu Moitra and Anupam Roy. Thugs of Hindostan is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language action-adventure film written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, and produced by Aditya Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films. Nakkash is a 2019 Hindi language film written and directed by Zaigham Imam, and produced by actor/producer Pawan Tiwari’s Jalsa Pictures & AB Infosoft Creation in association with Padmaja Productions, starring Filmistaan trio Inaamulhaq Sharib Hashmi and Kumud Mishra. Nakkash was premiered at DCSAFF where the lead actor Inaamulhaq bagged 'Best Actor Award' for outstanding performance in "Nakkash". It was also screened at SgSAIFF where director Zaigham Imam bags Emerging Filmmaker of the Year award.
