Zarmed University is a private university in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. Founded in 2022, it is the first private university established in Bukhara. The university was founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Dilshod Dalerovich Shukurlaev. It has two campuses - in Bukhara and in Samarkand.

History

Zarmed University was established as Turon Zarmed University by medical entrepreneur Dilshod Shukurlaev in August 2022. [2] He was instrumental in establishing the joint Uzbek-Indian project Zarmed - Pratiksha Hospital in Samarkand in 2021. [3] [4] Shukurlaev was inspired to found the university after the visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. [5]

Campuses

Zarmed University has two campuses - in Bukhara and in Samarkand.

Bukhara

Zarmed's 3-hectare (7.4 acre) Bukhara campus is situated on Kayum Murtazaev Street and has 9 blocks. [6]

Samarkand

Zarmed's 2.8-hectare (6.9 acre) Samarkand campus is situated on Khodzha Akhror Vali street and has 10 blocks. [6]

Zarmed cooperates and has partnerships with international universities and institutions like Temple University (USA), Hana General Hospital (Republic of Korea), Apollo Hospitals (India), Almazov National Medical Research Centre (Russia), Belarusian State Medical University, University Hospital Sharjah (UAE), Acibadem University (Turkey), Baskent University Healthcare Group (Turkey) and Voronezh State University (Russia). The Academy of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan is a body for the training of highly qualified military personnel for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was originally established as an inter-service educational institution that serves the purpose of training officers for higher level leadership positions. Cadets who study at the academy are enrolled for at least 2 years. It was the first institution of its kind to be established on the militaries of Central Asia. The school requires all cadets to be fluent in the Uzbek language as well as have a basic knowledge of Russian.

The Uzbekistan cough syrup scandal was a series of poisonings that resulted in the deaths of 18 children in Samarkand and two more children elsewhere in Uzbekistan in December 2022 and January 2023. It was caused by the toxic levels of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol in cold medicines produced by the Indian company Marion Biotech, such as the Dok-1 Max brand. Subsequently, the Indian government investigated Marion Biotech's manufacturing processes, while Uzbek authorities opened a criminal case against members of the health system that had contributed to the children's deaths, such as regulatory officials and pharmacy administrators.

Mehrinoz Abbosova is an Uzbek poet, journalist, and literary critic. In 2017, Abbosova was appointed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as chair of the newly established Republican Council of Young Artists. In this role, she led numerous festivals and other projects to support young artists across Uzbekistan. Abbosova was also involved in projects aimed at creating quality digital content in Uzbek, including the WikiStipendiya edit-a-thon on Uzbek Wikipedia. Since 2022, Abbosova has served as an advisor to the director of the Youth Affairs Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Hasan Normurodov was a state and public figure, the head of the Samarqand Region branch of the "Nuroniy" public association, and a Hero of Uzbekistan.

Oybek Tursunov is an Uzbek entrepreneur and government official. Tursunov is married to Saida Mirziyoyeva, the eldest daughter of the current President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. After Mirziyoyev was appointed president in 2017, Tursunov assumed the position of Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. He is also known to have managed Uzbekistan's national payment system, Uzcard, and was the controlling shareholder of Kapitalbank, one of the largest private banks in the country.
