Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (Z.A.A.) also referred to as Zim Achievers Awards [1] is an awards ceremony that seeks to recognise Zimbabweans based in the diaspora for outstanding and notable achievements. [2] [3] [4] Among the awards recipients include Hollywood actress Danai Gurira of The Walking Dead TV Series, and Black Panther; Chipo Chung as well as Luthuli Dhlamini of South Africa's TV Series Generations.

History

The Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (Z.A.A.) was founded in 2010 by Conrad Mwanza, [5] a Zimbabwean businessman who is based in the United Kingdom. He worked closely with his founding partners including UK based Zimbabwean public figure Soxx Peter Soko and Washington Kapapiro now in Africa. [6] The ZAA currently has four editions which are the UK Edition, [7] the USA Edition, [8] the Australian Edition [9] and the South African Edition. [4]

Over the years, the ceremony has had several different sponsors including Steward Bank, Food World, Mukuru, Fastjet, Impala Car Rental and Hamilton Insurance. The most recent partnership was with WorldRemit.

London Fintech Company, WorldRemit were announced as the global partner for ZAA International in March 2018. [10] They headlined the event in 2018 which honoured the achievements of Zimbabweans in the UK. The company also partnered to headline the South African, USA and Australian editions.

2018 UK Edition

The 2018 Z.A.A awards hosted Tsitsi Masiyiwa, the wife of Zimbabwe's first billionaire businessman Strive Masiyiwa. [11] Tsitsi Masiyiwa was the keynote speaker of the UK Edition on 26 May 2018 in London [12]

Tongayi Arnold Chirisa is a Zimbabwean actor and singer known for playing Man Friday on NBC's Crusoe television series, Father Nicholas on The Jim Gaffigan Show, Hekule on Leon Schuster's Mr. Bones 2: Back from the Past, and Cheetor in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Mukudzeyi Mukombe, better known as Jah Prayzah, is a Zimbabwean contemporary musician and lead member of the band Third Generation. He is popularly referred to by fans and media as "Masoja", the Shona word for "soldier", a name he earned mostly because of his signature band uniform of military regalia. The name "Jah Prayzah" comes from his name, "Mukudzeyi", which means "Praise Him".

Higherlife Foundation is a philanthropic organisation founded in 1996 by Strive and Tsitsi Masiyiwa. Since inception, foundation has been supporting orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa through education and material support. Education support has been provided through the Capernaum Scholarship for orphaned and vulnerable children and the Joshua Nkomo Scholarship for highly gifted children. Other than Education support, the foundation also supports beneficiaries with Guardianship and Pastoral Care. In the communities it serves, the foundation partners with healthcare and crisis response institutions.

Clive 'Mono' Mukundu is a Zimbabwean music producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist largely known as a guitarist. He is also an author. Mukundu has featured on more than 1000 albums and over 200 singles from 1988 to date.

Tendazvaitwa Medea Chitimbe is a Zimbabwean dancehall musician who adopted the moniker ‘Ninja Lady’ from her boss and mentor Winky D who is called Ninja President by his legion of fans. She first rose to fame after featuring in Winky D's song Taitirana paFirst Sight in 2011.

Coco weAfrica, is a Zimbabwean musical artist popular on Afrobeats, known for his 2016 hit song "Mai VaDhikondo". At the time he was known as Coco Master, which he then changed to Coco weAfrica.

The 2019 Star FM Music Awards were held on February 1, 2019, at Zimbali Gardens in Harare, Zimbabwe. The awards identify musical excellence, providing a multifaceted celebration of the rich cultural diversity of Zimbabwean music.

Learnmore Mwanyenyeka formerly known as Long John the Comedian and now known professionally as Learnmore Jonasi, is a Zimbabwean stand-up comedian, actor and MC. He is also known as "The Village Boy" and has won the 2019 National Arts Merit Awards as the Outstanding Comedian of the Year and the 2019 Savanna Comic Choice Awards as the Pan African Comic of the Year. He was people's choice award winner in Steve Harvey's Stand Up Spotlight competition in 2019. In 2020 he won the National Arts Merit Awards as the Outstanding Comedian of the Year.

Tanyaradzwa is a 2005 Zimbabwean award-winning bilingual drama film written and directed by Tawanda Gunda Mupengo. The film stars Tongayi Chirisa, Kudakwashe Maradzika and Tendai Musoni in the lead roles. The title role is played by the lead actress Kudakwashe Maradzika. The film had its theatrical release in August 2005 and received positive reviews. It also received several awards and nominations.

Jesesi Mungoshi is a Zimbabwean actress. She made her debut appearance in 1989, in the film titled, African Journey.

Rumbidzai Takawira is a prominent Zimbabwean television personality, TV producer, broadcast journalist and former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation main news anchor. She is also a karateka, she represented Zimbabwe at the World Karate Championships in Shizuoka, Japan.

Walter Lambert Muparutsa was a Zimbabwean writer and pioneering theatre practitioner.

Chipo Sabeta is a media personality, sports journalist and sports administrator. In 2020, she was Awarded FIFA/CIES sports management network project winner (Worldwide). She is the first Zimbabwean female journalists to be included in the FIFA Ballon d'Or voting panel since 2014.
