Zofreen T. Ebrahim is an independent freelance journalist based in Karachi, Pakistan. [1] [2] She was an editor of the magazine, Woman's Own and is the current editor for The Third Pole; [3] a platform dedicated to promoting information about the Himalayan watershed and the rivers that originate there. Education

Ebrahim went to Kinnaird College in 1982, where she completed her B.A (Bachelor of Arts) degree in English Literature and Geography. Following her passion for writing, she completed her master's degree in journalism from University of Punjab, Lahore in 1985. [9]

Career

Ebrahim started her career when she joined the Women's English Language monthly magazine, Women’s Own as an assistant editor and then later becoming its Editor. She is an expert in environment, gender, health, and development. [10] [11] [12]

In 2001, she started working as a freelance journalist. [13] In her career, she has worked with a variety of English dailies like Dawn, The News, [14] Tribune, First Post, News Line and Current Affairs monthly magazine. [15] [16] [17]

She also contributes to various international media services including the Inter Press Service, The Guardian, The Wire, [18] Thomson Reuters [19] [20] and currently The Third Pole. She also consults for various NGO’s and INGO's. [21] [22]

Awards and honours

Ebrahim has received multiple national and international awards for her work. In 2004, the Ministry of Environment awarded her Green Press Award. She also received second prize in the Developing Asia Journalism Awards. Asian Development Bank Institute awarded her with Inclusive Social Development award. [23]

She was awarded the Global Media Award for Excellence in Population Reporting in the category of Best Individual Reporting Effort by Washington-based Population Institute in 2005. [23]

She was awarded the Green media Award by Tetra Pak in 2007 for her story on how leak of a radioactive waste dump was affecting the health of the nearby villagers and indifference of the government to the issue. [23]

She was the receiver of Women Achiever's Award by Indus Television Network for her writings on women's issues in 2008.

In February 2020, the All Pakistani Newspapers Society (APNS) announced the names of recipients for its annual awards. [24] Ebrahim was awarded for Best Business / Economics Report in the 24th award distribution ceremony. [23] [25]

Rauf Klasra is a Pakistani journalist and Urdu language columnist. He files stories for both the news paper and television. Moreover he is also running a web paper and was earlier working with The News. Klasra is known for investigating political scams and scandals and has unfolded many financial and moral scams of political elite.

Sarmad Tariq, also known as "the chairman", was a storyteller and motivational speaker from Islamabad, Pakistan. After meeting a swimming accident at the age of 15, he was paralyzed from the left shoulder down and began using a wheelchair. He also holds the world record of longest non-stop drive by a quadriplegic by driving his hand controlled car for 33 hours, covering a distance of 1,847 km from Khyber to Karachi.

Karachi Breeze is a 112.9 km (70.2 mi) is a network of bus rapid transit routes under construction in Karachi, Pakistan. Construction began in 2013, two lines are operational and two lines are under construction as of September 2022, with 2 more planned. The projected ridership of the first line is estimated at 350,000 passengers per day, with a total of 109 km of dedicated bus routes. Upon completion, it will become the largest BRT network in Pakistan, and will connect to the Karachi Circular Railway.

Lumpy skin disease was spotted in Pakistan in Jamshoro district, Sindh in November 2021. By 9 September 2022, over 7000 cattle had died. Pakistan has 93 million cattle and buffaloes.

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) was established in 2016 and is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). It is an umbrella of AKDN agencies and programs that have provided aid and delivered training on habitat and disaster preparedness since the 1990s.
